If you're trying to figure out which windshield is right for you, this thread may be of interest.
In preparation for a trip this Summer, have decided to compare top speed and fuel economy on my lightly modified Vespa GT200 with various windshields. I will be comparing the Vespa midsize, the Cuppini midsize and the Malossi Sport screens. Today I did a control run, with the completely stock GT200 with a Cuppini midsize, and the top speed via GPS was 77.7, which was a letdown after watching the needle hover just below 90 mph. I don't really care about fuel economy on the Control Vespa. I just wanted a baseline to compare the other GT200 to.
The GT200 with the mods has the following:
PM Tuning Exhaust, with wrapped, ceramic coated header
130/80 rear, 120/80 front Kenda K761 dualsport tires
Malossi Shocks fore and aft
Malossi wave rotors (interestingly enough labeled Galfer) and syntered pads fore and aft.
Malossi 2Foam Air filter.
CVT FR4 Variator with 13g rollers
New Malossi Belt.
LubriMoly 10-60 Synthetic Oil, Malossi Oil Filter and BelRay rear end oil.
If it's slower than stock, I am going to be fairly pissed off.
According to Fedex, my Malossi screen was held up in customs, but it's now on the way, so hopefully the test will get underway on Thursday. I'm doing this because I plan to take this Scooter on a fairly long ride of about 4000 miles early this Summer, riding in what has been described as my "go fast and see nothing" style, so I'm trying to squeeze every advantage in terms of speed and being able to take on whatever the road has in store out of my setup I can.
My gut feeling is that the Cuppini is faster than the stock Vespa shield, and I'm interested in seeing how my perceptions of what's happening on the bike at high speed compares to what is really happening. The Malossi screen is the dark horse, not only because it's tinted, but because I don't know anyone who's tried one in the US.
Once I settle on a screen, I'm going to compare the stock Vespa topcase with my 42 liter Hepco Becker aluminum box that looks like something I'd use to carry donor organs or sell ice cream out of.
More to follow, but I wanted to get the baseline online before I deleted it from the GPS.
