Even though I'm not deciding or test riding until I take the motorcycle class, I have started looking at prices on CL and ebay to get an idea of what these go for, but the prices have been all over that it really hasn't given me a better idea!
From what I can tell, autotrader, cars.com, and kbb doesn't have Vespa as an option on their searches so I can't use those sites?
For example (and these are all what I'd consider regionally close)
A - 09 LX 150, 817 miles. Includes 2 helmets, rubber floor mat, and batter charger. $3,200
B - 09 LX 150, 5,759 miles, scratched, garage stored. Includes windshield, trunk box, and cover. $3,497
C - 09 LXV 150, 758 miles. Includes rack bag and helmet. $3,895
D - 07 LX150, 5300 miles. $2,995
E - 12 LX150, 8,300 miles. New rear tire, includes clear rack, Vespra windscreen and cover. $2,950.
F - 07 LX150, 1,722 miles. $2,500
G - 09 LX150, 817 miles. Includes 2 helmets, rubber floor mat and battery charger. $3,200
In no instance do I care about the helmet. It seems odd that B can be just $300 more than A with significantly more mileage and body damage (are those extras worth that much?). It seems odd that D and F are priced just $400 different and the higher mileage scoot is priced higher?
Is C that much nicer of a model and the low mileage, worth that increase in price over the others? A brand new LX150 is 4,600, seems I'd rather pay the extra $800 for a brand new one, vs 5 years old??

I would be tempted by E if it has good service records. Particularly oil changes at 600 and about 3600 miles. Did they use synthetic 5w-40 oil? Any scratches or dings? Carfax maybe just to be sure?
This will be fuel injected which might be nice. Of course problems with FE would be a dealer visit.
Older are good to. It would be great if a local MVer could look it over with you.
Whatever you do, it's critical to get the red key along with the blue one(s).

I would go for E too. The fuel injection plus the price being fair makes this my choice as long as there are service records and no damage. A clean title is important for a scooter if you plan on perhaps selling and upgrading at a later date.

8300 miles? Unless it is in Alaska or Hawaii, there is no place in the US 8300 miles from New Hampshire. Because of that that price is irrelevant.

...But at 8300 miles I would check to ensure it has service records proving the belt has been changed (don't just take their word for it), valves adjusted, proper oil used, etc. if not, that would add considerably to its price since you would need to have those service items done.

This was more an inquisitive post, as to why the prices varied so much. Like I mentioned, not buying just yet but I like to get an idea of what to expect.
Thanks all for the tips for things to ask and look for when searching!
YaYaDave thank you for both links!!
MudnMan true! I actually had thought of it, if I could get it home easily I will definitely extend my search...maybe it could fit in my SUV with the seats down
Cosmos - thanks for the pointers. I knew about the two keys from reading the Wiki! That would be pretty neat of a MVer came along when the time comes to buy!
multiscootguy you're right, but based on a previous post, and though I don't know for sure until I try, a GTS will likely be too big for me for a first scooter. Maybe not, but for now I'm researching the 150s. Raleigh is definitely farther than I want to travel, but I'll be heading to Allentown next month so I will be searching that area if I have my license by then!

Fall/winter is the best time to buy a scooter. People jack the prices up in spring. Also their clueless on what their worth. People think just because it's a Vespa they can ask for anything. Not many around in your neck of the woods as well. If you find one you like go armed with a KBB and cash. Try and get what you think it's worth. Can't hurt to try. Good luck
