Hi all,
I am trying to replace my rear hub seal on my Rally 180 and having a hell of a time of it ...

I got the tire and rear hub with no problem , but then there is a large castle nut and a spring clip . I cannot get the large castle nut to come off...
Does it go let to loosen>? it started fine then froze up after about a 1/4 turn and i cant get it to budge. If I am correct and was sent the correct seal then it must come off to replace the seal .... Anyways any tips or help appreciated as i am stuck ...

thanks in advance ~~

The oil seal sits inside the bearing retaining ring. Which is a reverse thread. I had a tool made to get mine off. The ring was banged up pretty good by the PO trying to get that ring off to replace the bearing.

BTW: I found a new ring at Scooters Originali. No one else had them at the time.

hi -
thanks for replies -

grumpy - there is a castle nut that holds the bearing in and is the seat for the seal ....so 2 castle nutz back there -
unfortunately the one for the bearing is reverse threaded - my damm foggy memory ... its what was giving me a headache - I ordered a new ring from Scooterwest as they were the only people could get a hold of that had 1.
After i did get the @_)%!#_%* thing off I found the seal i had ordered for it was the wrong one ... Which further frustrated me as I had specifically ordered over the phone to avoid confusion ...

Any way i do appreciate the response , now i'm waiting for parts to finish the job ...... Crying or Very sad emoticon

cheers all and happy scooting

hey Grumpy
I did get it out . i can start back in by hand - and can tap it round with a drift - but since i messed up the old one I would love to know what kind of tool can be made to do it without having the chance of messing up the new nut.
you have a pic of one ?
thanks~

yes, early vintage motors have a castle retainer that is threaded into the case to secure the bearing (instead of the later circlip style) wherein the seal is located beneath.
