Modern Vespa

While riding late this afternoon in heavy getting-out-of-work traffic, I noticed that nearly everybody seemed to be giving me more room than on previous rides--a larger perimeter safety zone apparent while stopped at intersections and greater distance allowed by motorists following me at the posted speed limit. I might attribute the increased caution of automobile drivers to the addition of some fluorescent reflective tape to the sides and back of my Vespa. Perhaps, some motorists associate the bright yellow-green color with construction zone vests where greater care is enforced by police.

Nice thought, and possibly so.

But don't believe in it too much. Meaning --- Still ride like you are the invisible man, that nobody sees you, everyone is out to do the stupidest stuff possible to see if it can get you, and that everyone else is letting their blind dog take the wheel.

I have all sorts of reflective and High Vis Gear, and the ones who want to ignore it still ignore it.
