My distance vision is fine, but I need glasses for reading, eating (to avoid eating unspeakable things) and close conversations (to read social cues). But I can't tell you how many times a day I have to go searching for reading glasses for a momentary need like reading instructions or checking an SMS.

Yeah science!

Just don't t use the peep sight on a rifle to help you focus ..... Just to read social cues.... You will not be happy with how small your social circle will become.....

Odd
I only have vision in my right eye, completely blind in the left, but I seem to see better if I close my left eye. Makes no sense.

I have used that technique in the past for distance vision. My optometrist used something similar to determine that I has a cataract.

The problem with it is you look quite strange to everyone holding your hands over your eyes like that.

When we were kids, we used to punch a couple of pinholes in pieces of notebook paper and wear them as "super goggles." We were taught about this by my grandfather, who was a builder of very large telescopes used by universities and research facilities. As a small boy, I thought everyone had an observatory in their backyards: we did. My father was always waking me up at 3:00am to see some or another astral body in the heavens. And then, he would make eggs benedict for us!!

I haven't thought about that for years. Thanks for jogging very pleasant memories, Trepp.

Funny, I got a smile out of that as I was linking to it. But for the record, that site is one of my daily visits. Mostly work safe and very snarky. Just the way I like to start my morning.

My husband has been using that trick for years to see the clock from bed. We just never knew why it worked, so thanks for the explanation. Nerd emoticon

OK, I tried again, with bright light and making the opening so tiny that I could barely see through it, and it worked. Since I always carry a flashlight, this will work great in a restaurant when I forget glasses.

works for me and I've also been using it for years. Its the basis of the pinhole camera. Most people have experienced pinhole focusing when looking at a solar eclipse. You can't look directly at the sun but you can use a small pinhole to focus the sun's image on a small piece of paper. Same principle.

Thanks Trep.

Best

So I went to Cheezburger and proceeded to waste about an hour going from link to link to link... And it is now on my favorites bar. Things will never be the same. Fortunately you can't get "more retired."

Cheezburger is the secret portal to the really weird corner of the web.
