Fancy a new color
Anyone get results from using just rattle cans from the auto shop in the yard or will I end up with crappy results ?
I'm loving the orange seen on some posts tonight in Gabor of my rather tired alabaster stock color
Don't have loads of cash to do this
Can I spray the plastic parts as well as the metal ?
Cheers loz

You'll find it'll take a large number of rattle-cans, which soon adds up to a sizeable amount of dosh. Then consider that at least the first time, you'll have some orange-peeling or flies stuck to it, so it'll take quite a few more.
That said, it *is* possible to get very reasonable results from rattle-cans - especially if you go for a rat-bike look.
If you do all the main body-prep, the local spray-shop may well not charge a huge amount more than rattle-canning it yourself, and the end result should be far better. Especially if this is your first time.
If you have a compressor and a paint-gun handy, then DIY becomes much more feasible.

How about some other alternatives?
plastidip:
No personal experience but I believe it's pretty costly but also the benefit of being a removable film in the future, Comes in a rattle can.
Vinyl wrap:
Same principle as plastidip but much more cheaper.
A few folks i've spoken to in London with super cars prefer these as they protect the original paint work.

+1 on the plasti dip! And when you get tired of orange, peel it off and go purple.

or, if you have access to a small air compressor you can buy a small spray gun for probably under $50. you'll have a lot more control and probably spend a little less for the paint. you'll also be able to get your color custom mixed. i've seen small compressors at menards for under $100.

Pretty sure you çan get paint made up in better spray cans these days, but yes with spray gun better results, just remember to spray somewhere warm and dry. And well ventilated.

Check out this older thread. The OP did a great job with custom mixed paint in a rattle can.

ive seen a few cars plasti dipped and the finish was shocking, not to say if someone took there time and had some skills maybe it would be ok,but the ones ive seen look really bad, setting up to spray with a compressor isn't cheap but will get a good job with 2k,you would need a compressor with a good cfm, water filter, airline, connectors, spray gun, paint,2k thinners,2k hardner, gun cleaner, panel wipe, paint filters, air regulator, measuring cups,a good mask for 2k use, probably missed some stuff out but you should be good to go with that and somewhere clean warm dry and well vented.
