Benelli Boy wrote: I've had the X10 350 for just coming up to 2 yrs, Pepy. I LOVE it, but it won't suit everyone. I can only really compare it to a GT125, GTS250, the X9 250, and the BV350. I've ridden the old Piaggio 400 and 500 engines in various chassis(es), but haven't done serious miles on them. As far as size goes, the X10 is BIG. You either love the styling or you don't. It eats luggage under the seat, and then you can fit the enormous topbox - which is much bigger than anything in the Piaggio/Vespa range since the X9 box. It makes a real difference when you're comparing the OEM box for the X10 to the one for the BV350. I can fit a biggish Amazon delivery box in the X10's topbox...I can fit a biggish matchbox in the BV's (and the BV also has poor underseat storage, as with all large-wheeled scoots). The 350 engine (which is in both the scoots) is a huge step up from the old 250 in terms of power-per-cc. The X10 500, as has been said, uses the old 500 engine which has always had a reputation for being solid and simple, rather than innovative. It WILL have more overall power and a higher top speed though, so if you're really planning on loading heavy and riding 2-up a lot, then maybe the 500 is your answer. However, you might want to try a 2-up test on the 350 to see how it goes for you. I only ever really ride solo, so can't comment. The seat on the X10 is wide, so any potential long-term pillion might want to test that out as it could be a deal-breaker. The X10 has floorboards for the pillion, which I imagine will be easier over long trips than just having pegs. The BV 350 is lighter, has a shorter wheelbase, is very different in terms of seating position and weather protection, and is less well specc'ed in terms of gadgets and general equipment (compare lifting the seat on both scoots, for example...the BV feels flimsy and fiddly...the X10 has a gas strut to keep the seat open, and feels really solid). The two scoots are quite differentiated (a Good Thing, imho), and will appeal to different people. All I can say is that if you're looking for a big scoot and prioritise carrying capacity and comfort, then the X10 should be one for serious consideration. Good luck choosing. It's always great fun choosing a new scoot. I'm really looking for a good all rounder for long distance touring, preferably with two people and loads of storage, so i'll ask the question about the top box when we go for a test ride in the weekend. A few things about it grab my attention are: electronic suspension- no more adjusting the rear shocks by a spanner! 41BHP 15.5 litre fuel tank for long distance riding ABS and ASR for safer riding Auto parking brake when the side stand is down Graham |

It'll probably live at my gf's house where she has a garage at the side of her place, in which Ill move the sprint from my wooden shed at the bottom of the garden up to the brick built lockup further up. I'm really looking for a good all rounder for long distance touring, preferably with two people and loads of storage, so i'll ask the question about the top box when we go for a test ride in the weekend. A few things about it grab my attention are: electronic suspension- no more adjusting the rear shocks by a spanner! 41BHP 15.5 litre fuel tank for long distance riding ABS and ASR for safer riding Auto parking brake when the side stand is down Graham For all the spec's, look here: http://www.piaggiox10.com/#lang/en/tech-spec If you fit the box (which is expensive, but good quality - it's a Shad box rebadged as Piaggio - and I wouldn't be without it), it sticks out of the back and makes it longer by the width of the box (which must be approx. 14 - 16 in, I imagine). The 350 has the same 15.5l tank (great, unless you're riding with say, a GTS or BV, in which case you'll be limited by their fuel range anyway), and also has ABS/ASR and side stand brake. The 500 is the only one with the electric suspension adj (I tend to set mine on the heaviest setting anyway. Never notice any difference). The X9 forum has a couple of X10 owners on it. IIRC, there's someone on there who's had a 350 and has then swapped it for a 500. He may have even gone to France and imported it (but don't quote me on that, my memory is a bit vague there). Try http://www.x9ownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=76.0 , which is the X10 section of their forum. They're a friendly bunch, and a lot of them do their own maintenance so they should be able to help out on any queries you have in that direction. If you go for an X10, I would strongly recommend getting an angled valve fitted to the rear tyre because it's a bugger to get an airline to it due to restricted space between suspension, wheel, and engine (although the 500 might not have this problem so much as it's got a monoshock IIRC). Good luck. Simon ⚠️ Last edited by Benelli Boy on UTC; edited 2 times

You all have upgrade fever! Best of luck with finding a new machine.
Me, I'm wondering if I should jack in the Hodna, downgrade in terms of cc but go up in terms of looks and buy this beautiful Vespa Sprint in yellow. Man not included. I don't go out on big ride outs any more as there is no time, and 125cc is all you need in London, really. I feel a bit of a fraud pretending to be a motorcyclist. ![]() |

Definitely don't get the man. That scarf! What was he thinking of?
Scoot looks lovely, though. (In fact, would it be too lovely? Would you be have to also get pit bulls to guard it, or would simple razor wire suffice?) |

Agree the scarf is bleurgh.
Security is a concern, considering investing in a ground anchor as several of the neighbours have done for their scoots. The Hodna doesn't get any attention, but on the other hand, it doesn't get any attention... |

No, I think David would want something else rather than the NC.... and I'd have to sell the NC to get the Sprint.

Oddly enough I look quite comfortable because I'm about to fall asleep.
I ran a bit too fast and I was aching like the pussy I am. Genie asked me to help with the gardening and I think I lasted about an hour then I heard the grass calling. Birreeeehhhh it said. Edit - Kate what you need is a mid sized scooter that no one's going to steal......with one careful owner. |

He asked me - Do you know what the pedal on the right is for ? Then whispered - Keep it up mate. The other driver pretty much filled his up. Bill x |

I'm going, it's my local rally. I'm in Carnaby st, at least 2 times a week, but on foot. The music and food is always good in Shoreditch. Was in Portobello rd monday afternoon. Striding along in my Pretty Green jeans, short sleeve shirt n light jacket. Walked past Paul Weller munching on a ciabatta roll. He gave me a double take. Chuffed. Gass Silver machine. GTS 250

Towel Day does sound like fun, and I *do* know where mine is, but I think my GF would be more inclined to go to Prescott and watch Bugattis being driven up a hill at speed.
Especially if there's wine and sunshine. |

We're going to Amsterdam on Monday for a few days' holiday, and I'm REALLY EXCITED about it!!!!!!!!!
In Other News, Mrs BB has just bought another scooter...... .....it's foot-powered, though ;0) I have told her she'll get overtaken by pre-schoolers, but she insists otherwise. Of course, it gets delivered to me at work and I have to take it home tonight, strapped on the pillion. Rok Straps to the rescue!!! Only problem is that the box is about 3 ft X 18in X 9in, so the only way it fits is sideways. I might not be filtering much tonight.... |
