Nicely warm here today, a pleasant 33°C. Looking forward to some beer come happy hour - I've a rather nice 'session' pale ale at 3.7% ABV, dry-hopped with Citra. Glug, glug.

A cup of tea is going down the hatch right now, perfick.
Something like 15-20% of people get the aroma of cat pee from Citra hops. I, fortunately, am not one of them. I brewed a Citra beer once and when I gave a glass to my brother he was horrified by the smell.
Elderflower has the same problem. My Dad's elderflower wine was loved by most, but made a few people turn away in disgust.

I've just made two low alcohol beers that are nearly ready to drink. Now I'll be able to drink while mowing and not worry about falling off of the tractor.
Morebeer are now very used to me using 20-25% less malt extract than their recipes suggest - apparently nearly all home-brewers want the highest ABV they can get (why?) and their recipes are mostly geared towards that.

I'm lucky in that Morebeer's west-coast distribution centre is only 3 miles away, so I'm in there every week or so. A GTS top-box only holds so much in the way of ingredients.

My Mother's Day presents came today from scootwest. I think I have a little tear in my eye. Midsize screen, louder horn, plug in charger panel for my phone and other bits. Quality of ride will greatly be improved

Plugs for the DOT reflectors I am removing, louder horn, new side panel strips since I <cough> scratched one of them, Vespa mid size windscreen (most excited about) and the panel charger doodad for my phone or the tire pump I have.

Predictably, I really like the onesie (though I'm sad there isn't a Pink Floyd one). Not as good as this example, though.

Flowers are always depressing. Gorgeous when you get them? Then they shrivel and die. Rather have some scooter parts. Last much longer. More practical.

Nice sticker placement! Right next to the donk logo! Thanks.

As to the idea that you failed, let me just say that I'd rather have an exciting failure with stories to last a lifetime than an unmemorable success which was like every other ride I've ever taken, just longer.

It would be one thing if you were unprepared or careless. But when you go head to head with luck or mother nature, there's no shame in a tie.

Once again, well done!

so, apparently i don't work in a suburban art school after all - i work in a high security installation that not only has swipe-card barriers to enter the building, but will soon have swipe-card barriers at the entrance and exit to the parking lot. looking forward to scrabbling around for a little plastic card with my gloved fingers - and it'll be great in the winter! oh, and thanks to our ever-vigilant estates and facilities team for consulting parking lot users before going ahead with this

I also have to do this (but it is a government building so perhaps a little more understandable) and have the card on an extendable piece of elastic attached to my belt loop. It means no fiddling on entry.

We use a fairly secure data centre a couple of miles down the road - they need visitors to be booked in in advance, carry photo ID and so on.

At the entrance to the site they have an intercom so you can announce yourself, they come out and check your ID and registration against the bookings and then allow you in.

They used to have big sturdy bollards that dropped down into the road, so when I turned up on my Vespa one day I just rode round them and parked outside the entrance, much to the annoyance of the security staff.

They insisted that I "couldn't do that" and didn't like it when I pointed out that I just had. They claimed it was very important that I stop by the bollard, take my helmet and gloves off and then wait for someone to come and tell me it's ok to ride round the bollard, before putting the gear back on to ride 30 metres.

I suggested that they might want to get some better gates if they wanted to enforce that, and a month later they did. Not sure how much that cost them or what the point of this story is, but there you go....

Too bad they didn't consult first. We use a proximity card system so I just leave my card in the breast pocket of my jacket so all I have to do is bump my chest on the sensor. I do get odd looks from time to time though.

I used to use a retractable badge holder until it broke. Was pretty handy.

Aside, I had a cafe au lait bowl (from France) with the words "coq d'or" emblazoned on it. Pretty close to skok, I guess.

Belter....
Had a really crappy day at work today, travelled 400 miles to Glossop to encounter a completely different problem that was reported on the email, and couldn't find any advice or support from the pen pushers at head office...
So, when I finally got home, I had a cup of tea, and decided to take the scoot out, and drive like I stole it- made me feel better, and bought a smile back to my face!
