ARKANSAS...........Has the only active diamond mine in the U.S.

CALIFORNIA............Its economy is so large that if it were a
country, it would rank seventh in the entire world.

And to mention at one point in time few years back it was on the brink of bankruptcy......

INDIANA - (My home state!) - The first professional baseball game was played in Fort Wayne on May 4, 1871.

MICHIGAN - (My other state) - The city of Novi was named from its designation as Stagecoach Stop # 6 or No.VI.

TENNESSEE - (My other, other state) - Nashville's Grand Ole Opry is the longest continuously running live radio program in the world. It has broadcast every Friday and Saturday night since 1925.

GEORGIA - (My current state!) - Coca-Cola was invented in May 1886 by Dr. John S. Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. The name "Coca-Cola" was suggested by Dr. Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank Robinson. He penned the name Coca-Cola in the flowing script that is famous today. Coca-Cola was first sold at a soda fountain in Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta by Willis Venable.

COLORADO - Yes, there's that. But I hope we're better known for our fabulous mountains & skiing.

The guy who helped with the invention of the parking meter, Carl Magee (and might have patented it?), used to live in Albuquerque and owned a couple hundred acres up in the mountains that had been used as a pony-express stage stop in the 1800s and as a tuberculosis sanatorium in the early 1900s.

I did a bunch of preservation work on it a few years ago to turn it into a historical site and some students I worked with made 'environmental art parking meters' in his honor that were formed out of dried mud and native plant seeds (and looked like parking meters). They put them all over the site and they were allowed to 'weather' over the course of a couple of years slowly releasing seeds to the ground so they could grow out of the soil. It actually worked pretty well!

I'm surprised Primordialdancer didn't list the "Spaceport"...New Mexico's answer to what troubles the United States. We're (two counties) paying off $209,000,000 for this 10,000 ft runway in the desert, Truly a farce, but it's there waiting for Sir Richard Branson and his minions to come out and fly a few too-much-money & too- little- common sense " astronauts" to the edge of space. OMG!
