Warning. It is a little hard to watch but it ends well. The boy does have some injuries though it could have been much worse if it wasn't for Super Cat!

For some reason I can't see the video here; but found a link on FB that worked for me. Cool video.
Just in case others can't see it; here's the link that worked for me. http://fox40.com/2014/05/14/my-cat-saved-my-son/ |

Yeah I read that they took the dog for observation. Something must be wrong with it because that seemed to be a pretty vicious unprovoked attack.

I was raised with Cats and Dogs and I love them both.
Our Dogs would regularly defend our cats, against other neighborhood dogs, but this is the first time I have seen a cat defend a child. The cat also runs the dog off, circles back and checks on the child before following the child in. Amazing! |

Absolutely amazing - I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. My cat takes on dogs three times it's size, and he's a big cat, but not sure he would rescue any of us if something happened like that.

This is all over the internet and no one has asked what did the little boy do to the dog in the past that provoked the attack.
Dogs in general do not simply just individually pick on random adults or children. But if you have been throwing stones or taunting with a stick or... then they will look for an opportunity to get their own back.

Pound for pound, IMHO, a furious cat outdoes any dog. Doesn't hurt to have fangs on all 4 feet too.

Wow, what a beast! - shame on the owner of the dog for having it loose - that's the unspoken story here....
Yes, cats can be protective or territorial in my experience - ours walks along with my daughter and I if we are outside the house and makes hissing noises at other cats and dogs nearby, should they get too close. He doesn't bother to do this when my husband is around - either that makes him a chavinist cat, or he considers that David can look after himself. |

I never was much of a dog person until I was asked to foster a rescue. After a few days I fell in love with the bugger (my avatar pic) and adopted him. I am an avid believer in leash laws (and picking up after your own pet) but am amazed at how arrogant many pet owners are, thinking the laws don't apply to them.
We are blessed with so many off leash dog parks, but I guess the city streets are the off leash dog park to these owners. |

The main part of the video appears to be taken from the house(?) and shows the right side of the car. Then there is a shot or two of the left side of the vehicle. Who took that shot?
I wonder how much of this was edited and combined from different occasions. I mean, if it is on the Internet it must be correct, right? |

The dog was a lab/chow mix. I know chows can be very protective but I have never seen one go on the attack unprovoked.
Anyway: Quote: Sgt. Joe Grubbs, Bakersfield Police spokesman, said the dog will be quarantined for 10 days then euthanized. |

The dog's owners would be liable for up to five years in jail in the UK.

It's sad really, the owners play a huge part in their behavior and they should be made to pay, they would over here!
I'm not a huge fan of felines but I have a particular fury friend who I love, my best friends cat Misty. Although she's certainly no a fan of their cockapoo! ![]() |

I grew up in Seattle's south end and was routinely attacked by dogs trained by their owners to be vicious towards people and kids. In all cases, I was not on anyone's property, I was not messing with the dog in question, it was just plain nasty people training their dogs to attack people.
Back then, there were no penalties or consequences. I am glad there is more accountability now. It's sad to have to euthanize a dog, but once an incident like this has happened it's hard to justify the risk of keeping the animal around. |

I work in a boarding facility on the weekends that houses both cats and dogs.
I am scared of the cats. Those little claw infested bastards can scratch and bite the piss out of you. I have had dogs with warning labels on their kennel doors advising that they are likely to bite, handle with caution, etc. Never had a problem with them. Cats, different story. I have had 2 bite me and one scratch the hell out of my arm. Cats are EVIL! |

Tough Cats
Years ago I had a Siamese cat called "Bonesey" because he was a runt of the litter and a bag of bones, most of his life.
He was a better watch dog (cat) than our Doberman. He regularly attacked any dog, cat, racoon, possum or any other creature that came into our yard. If loose he would range the neighbourhood in a menacing way. People he liked, but their pets were at risk. We finally had to confine him on a leash and in his later years in house. When they said they were bred to protect the temples in Siam, he was the epitome of that breeding. He was a great companion and lived to 19 years. |

My Buddy tuxedo cat is tough. We had a bear visiting regularly and Buddy would just sit on the railing yawning as it walked by. Suki my half Siamese would be having a meltdown looking for someplace to hide.
I could see Buddy doing what this cat did. He fears no animal or human...just the vacuum cleaner. |
