OOPS sorry forgot about the firearms rules.....Must try harder

Many firearms rules - or lack of rules - in the US puzzle me also and I've lived here all my life. In other words, probably too complex and controversial to discuss very much on this site.

No less the prohibitions in the posting guidelines.

Perhaps it would be better to discuss the American misuse of the term "football"?

I live here and I am confused. I don't blame you one bit for being confused too.

Arizona has open gun carry laws that allow firearms to be carried with you wherever you go except fir places set out in the law and places where signs are posted prohibiting guns. Gun laws very by state but few are as unrestrictive as Arizona. Plenty of info on the web if you want to learn more without discussing it here.

Ok, rather than hinting, let me quote the posting guidelines: I'm sure there are plenty of other confusing things about the US that are available. How about 50 states with 50 different driver licenses and driving laws? (Driving, not helmet laws)

I would begin the confusion with 50 quasi autonomous states.

The United States puts a higher percentage of its population in prison than any other nation on earth does.

How many of those are related to the use of weapons?

At least you don't have to wonder why we have a royal family that has no authority, but is financially supported by public funds.

Totally agree with the above. And, one would think...that we would at some point be getting smarter, more logical and realizing just how far out to lunch we really are. We have some of the finest schools in the world and it seems that too many major in "Counter Productive 101."

I see a lot of examples on this forum about crime in the UK. Maybe they don't mind criminals walking the street. Stiff upper lip

I was going to offer a point for debate:

Why do 49 states ban lane splitting and filtering yet California allows it?

The state of CA got it right on this one.

Resistance, apathy or inability? Been a topic of "how the world has changed" discussions at class reunions. Back in the early 50's in junior high, we really thought it would happen.

For many states, PTWs represent such an insignificant portion of the vehicles on the road that it probably doesn't make the radar screen. Can you envision a state legislator thinking, "Wow, allowing lane splitting will get me six more votes", and then doing the work necessary to push such legislation?

i hope they don't, Imperial (is it called Imperial over there?) is quirky, quirky is good

and have we ever truly adopted the metric system in the UK?

I'm 5'7", weigh 15 stone and have a 38" waist (yeah, eaten too many quarter pounders) so i was sweating cobs yesterday coz the temperatures was 80f. My car has a 10 gallon tank which will get me about 400 miles which is pretty good but i can't get 8 x 4 foot sheets of plasterboard in it.

and i was only taught metric at school

the thing that confuses me about america is how come their pints are so wee? for that matter their gallons. Are miles smaller in america?

Consider the plight of the American Soldier:
