I just use my fingers when no one is looking. I sometimes pee in the shower too. Glad to get that off my mind.

Chewing mouth open is the worst. Ever hear a dog lick it's butt? Same sound. Lol.

Yep... and another hot button for me... slurping your noodles, soup or coffee. That sounds disgusting!

Note: I've encountered some quiet noodle slurpers, I can tolerate that.

Froggie, if you ever go to china, be prepared to hear the butt licking sound a lot. The chinese tend to slurp, burp, talk, chew. and whistle dixie all simultaneously!

Isn't this the country where if you don't do the above it's considered bad manners and indicates to the host/hostess that you aren't satisfied with their hospitality? BURP!!!!!!

I have been all over Asia. And you are so right. I found picking food from a communal plate, pick up.. Put in mouth, repeat. 8-10 people basically double dipping with chopsticks. And don't get me started on the odd animals I ate. Fried sparrows in Macau were the top oddness. They fry the WHOLE thing. You eat head, beak and all. Than god for beer, liquid courage. Hong Kong was odd underwater animals... Korea was cow spinal cord, kimcheed oysters (yes oysters shucked and buried in the ground with kimchee). The list goes on. Lol. Sushi that is twitching in front of you because it is "fresh".

My son ate raw snake gallbladder in Shanghai then found out later it can make you very sick. Snake parasites.

Sounds like something wasn't prepared properly. That can happen in any resteraunt, not just the ones that serve snake gallbladder.

I got a list of things to look out for when I moved to Texas, it was about 75 items long. I think the guy who have it to me had pity on me because I was not only not from West Texas, but not even from the US.

Anyway, the one item that still sticks in my mind, and the snow part reminded me of it, was: Don't drive in the snow. You might be able to, but we sure are not.

All I can say is that it takes a hell of a lot longer than 10 hours to properly smoke a brisket....they use the "Texas Crutch" down there.

My brother, otherwise a very polite man, slurps his soup. He sound like a dog. We have not been able to break him of it.

I ran into one of those silly on-line quizzes yesterday. This was about knowing the part of the country people are from by the words they use. This question made me laugh out loud.

there is not much written about why the 2 litre plactic soft drink bottle "stuck" other than its being introduced in 1970 by PepsiCo, based on a new DuPont design. This was the first "large size", convenient container (glass is heavy and involves more difficulty in disposal or return for deposit), and probably became the "standard" by default. How would other soft drink makers compete in a different size? A 64 oz (2 qt) bottle would only be 1.8927 L.

When we need something. We ask "you don't have a wrench I can borrow do you ?" in the negative , has always baffeled me.

My more "American" raised friends make fun of me because I say "Turn off the light" and not "Shut off the light".

It's "Apaga La Luz" in spanish (my first language) meaning "Turn off the light".

I say the same about a candle..."turn off the candle".

Interesting. I do remember the 64oz bottles and the 16oz bottles. Even those went to 1 L. I think. The 64's were awkward, I think that is why the labels were Styrofoam..... so you could hold onto them. Anyway.... I just found it interesting.... I'm just not sure why

I say turn off the lights. But then again I grew up in California. Most areas are influenced by the Spanish language anyway.

I say switch off the lights. It is a light switch after all.

FWIW ~ Early electric light switches were knobs that you turned, rather than toggles or buttons. And, of course, table lights have knobs.

"Whistling dixie" serves as a catchall term for other things too numerous to mention, or any idle pursuit.

In the negative, it can mean "I whole heartedly agree"

As in: "Damn, this burrito is tasty"

"You ain't just whistling Dixie, pardner"
