God I'm so stupid. I drilled out my 95 and 98 main jets to 105 and 110, but both are too rich, and now I'm convinced 100 is too rich. I think my problem is I need a bigger idle jet. The lean idle is making everything else read lean, I also think I was reading the plug incorrectly. With the 100, it pulls well in the mid, but is a little sluggish in the top, while the 98 was sluggish in the mid but pulled in the top. I think the idle doesn't supply enough fuel in the mid, but the fat main makes up for it while being to rich at WOT. I'm going to try plugging up half the atomizer holes on the 42 idle to see if that will work.
Now I have to buy new 95 and 98 main jets, at $5 a pop plus $5.20 shipping. Or just buy the Polini kit with a 22mm Mikuni carb, $140 at SIP with $20 shipping. A bigger, better carb with better jet selection. |

.... after putting it all together and putting the motor back in the frame I took it for a ride and all was well.. Except the exhaust I put on rubs the top of the tire.. arrrgghghgh right down the center.. it's just melting the tire..
There was a little clearance when I built it but when the tire is totally inflated and I ride it, it expands and rubs and melts! I need to switch back to the Franz until I can find or have made a spacer for the exhaust to case connection.. 2mm would be great! Jerry? Anyway, the bearing conversion seems to be working as I'd hoped.. And.. the new BGM tap with reserve light is working this time.. the float is actually floating.. (thanks to Scooter Center for taking care of that problem without a hassle) And I used a cool flywheel cover spacer I'd bought to space out the cover for the Aluminum fan.. Much better than washers and tape to seal the gap. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well, I did it. Some time next week, I will be receiving a new 22mm Mikuni carburetor. I'm already dying from anticipation. I figured I was going to buy it at some point anyway, might as well buy it sooner than later and avoid wasting more money on buying jets for the stock carb.

Damn, Vader! I wish I had half the patience yo do to put together a build like that. Beautiful! It's a shame about the melting tire.

After a year and a half of rebuilding and kitting and rebuilding and upgrading and cleaning and switching out and putting it back, I finally got the VBA on the road again.
I actually got to ride for about a WHOLE hour today. Wish me luck for the future. ![]() |

Fortuitous circumstances today.
I bent a rim after hitting a pothole about 2 1/2 weeks ago (then a week later I hit a raccoon, but that's another story). The tire bulged where the rim bent and a engine case stud dug a nice groove in the sidewall. Then somebody on the Modern Buddy forum who works on vintage Vespas decides to send me a old rim and new tire after hearing my story, free of charge. Well it arrived 2 days ago, but I was messing with the carb, so I didn't mount the tire. Well now that I'm waiting for a new carb, I decided to get the tire mounted on the replacement rim. Get everything together and lined up, wrench the nuts on lightly, go back to torque 'em back up... and the 3rd stud twists off. Not stripped, not come loose, it snapped in half. Luckily the half with the studs from my original rim was undamaged. Well two halves make a whole, right? Replaced the half, tightened everything up, inflated the tube, and the tire bead seated right up. I feel accomplished. |

If they want to have a rule, it should be "No covered faces or masks."
When I was working in London, every building I ever went in had a sign posted saying "All helmets must be removed" or something similar. How do they feel about modular helmets if you flip up the chin bar? |

But that's authentic patina and any flaws ought to rub right out like new. Is it a VBA Josh? Talented cat you got there, mine drags in little moles(dead) & field mice(last one very much alive). |

Was riding today with the tap pointing up when it started to fade, so flicked it over to reserve as I knew it was getting low, but it still was fading until it finally stopped. Bugger I thought...new bike...what the hell....then I realised I'd flicked the tap to closed instead of reserve...Doh ⚠️ Last edited by rod_r on UTC; edited 1 time

It has patina that goes right through to the other side.
Only a few servos here require you to take your helmet off. One in particular wants you to take it off before you fill up, let alone go in to pay. |

Then I could have a P200E (#3 on my list, after SS180 and Rally200) for tuning, and the Stella 4T for commuting. I also found this picture of a gorgeous P-series in an ad for a vintage scooter swap meet. What headset is that? Not a T5, headlight is rounded. Edit: Indonesian. ![]() |

Yeah Indonesian.there was a couple imported into Dublin by a well known dealer in the 90s.Verynice. Vastly better looking than the normal p type headset. The square ish headset goes better with the squared off p series lines I reckon
