Today I tried to install my new old Pitone pipe... And promptly realized it's for a 125... Headache emoticon Scream emoticon

Guess I'll see if I can find a home for it at the rally this weekend.

Aw, little sorry to hear you're ditching the US signals and tail light, but the bar ends, I like. If you run into any snags installing them let me know, been through it a couple of times now.

Just wrapped up a 150 mile round trip on my P200e and on the final fuel stop I noticed gas running down to the ground just behind the carb box. Loose banjo, snugged it up and all was well again. I think it might be the clause bushes transferring more vibration then the stock ones. Still love em, given that with them, torque on things should be checked now and then.

It was supposed to rain today, but was not bad this afternoon so I went for a lovely ride in the countryside too, also with a Doc. This was Doc Morgan, the guy with the fancy P w/ trailer to match.

Archive photo, he came to 'help' on Skot's project 79 P200 Overhaul
External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

But today after we sorted a couple of electrical issues on his scoot, it was two 1974 Sprints out in the sun on back roads, my ratty green one & his immaculate blue one which I got to ride back. His runs as good as it looks, like a fine watch - but he really enjoyed my crude P200 power

Sorry, forgot pics

Today I... installed a PE style horncast on a Stella 166 I bought after seeing it on DOTD back in Jan.

2011 PX's came with a PE style curved horn cover. no horizontal bar on the top or Piaggio hex on the grill, but I've always preferred the shape. I ordered one from SIP through Hodge, got a paint match and single stage spray can at a local shop, painstakingly primed, and painted the HC last night. I had to dremel off two small extensions so it could sit flush on the bottom before I could screw it in place. It's not perfectly flush (perhaps partially because of the Stella's clusterf*&k wiring harness that runs atop the front of the legshield) even after moving wires but I'm going to mess with it until I get it right.

I'm planning on a proper wash along with paint touch ups here and there over before I head overseas.

ps: yes I rebadged (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30GD25un0XQ)

Tried to register and get plates for the smallframe I bought at Christmas. Girlfriend is learning how to ride it so I figure we should get insurance and plates since it's not me riding it. Went to Triple A and thought I was in the clear.... Attendant chased me and told me I need to get a CHP inspection after issuing me a plate. I hope CHP doesn't give me shit since it's a 76 ET3 with no turn signals

Oh shit.. welcome to the club.. I have to do the same thing w/ my '80 Jet200.. I have no signals, no horn, no leg shield, no nothin'.. I already sent in 2 inspections from MC shops who said they do tons of them, and they got kicked back.. they never specifically told me I needed to take it to CHP.. they just said Brake/Light Certificate..

I think I'm screwed..

Good luck w/ yours.. lemme know how you do.

We had no signals on our '76 when we took it to the CHP. They didn't care. They just ran the frame and engine #'s, and signed off. Whole thing took maybe half an hour. Piece of cake... maybe we got lucky ... ?

Never had to deal with that at CHP. The CHP should understand that its a vin verification, not a inspection. I would consider trucking it there, not riding if your concerned about it getting inspected.

as to Vader with the DMV. there is a brochure at the DMV that spells out the steps needed. go back to the DMV with the CHP inspection complete and show them how you are following what is in their printed documents. Your not screwed, you just need to explain that you are following their process and it says nothing about the brake/light inspection, any of the supervisors on the floor should be able to issue you a plate and registration based on the chp inspection. Also, the torrance CHP is the business. an LBCSC guy works there and might be able to help out if anything comes up.

I'm just worried.. the bike doesn't look like a scooter.. it's all tube and motor.. and gigantic pipe.. I'm afraid if I get a guy in a bad mood, he'll hit me with everything in the book.. including decibel meter overload.. only a visit to the CHP will tell.. but it's probably like the DMV.. get someone in a bad mood and yer screwed..

I haven't been all that lucky lately..

Know how you feel, but honestly, I think you might be fretting unnecessarily... When it comes to government agencies, CHP's one of the easiest to deal with. Nothing like the DMV ... they don't have a revenue axe to grind, aren't looking for nit picky ways to collect fees. A lot of em ride bikes... I don't think they'll make you jump thru hoops or slap you with any fines. Yeah you could get the grump who's having a bad day, but just be cool and make it clear you're trying to be Mr. Good Citizen. Derek's suggestion of hauling your scoot down in the back of your truck is a good one. I think you'll be fine...

We found out that every vehicle we own was in some state of illegality last week after my wife got a ticket for expired registration.

So this morning, I went down the the Secretary of State, got her sticker sorted out, and re-registered the Stella so I can finally quit running it with the VBB's plates. In and out in under 15 minutes.

Then, just for good measure, I added the Stella to my insurance so I could withstand a wreck and not just a ticket from that perspective.

I feel like such an upstanding citizen.

Well I wiped out on a patch of sand in a turn a week and a half ago, so I brought the scooter into the dealer for an estimate. They just got back to me today and it will be $5600, on a scooter that costs $3800 new (and I paid $2800). The damage wasn't all too bad and mostly cosmetic except for the bent shift tube. Well time to shop for a new scooter. Anybody want a Stella 4T frame if I buy back the scooter? I don't really feel like spending the time fix it, especially since I'm moving to Japan in September.

Damn, man. That sucks. Almost happened to me once and I favored the bike over my leg.

Do us a favor and send some of them late model smallies over from Japan. I'd love one of them.

After picking it up from the dealer today and going over it again, I think I will just buy it back and fix it. All it really needs is a new shift tube. Slap some paint on the road rash and replace the 2 engine case bolts, oil strainer cover and kick start bolt that got chewed up. Pocket the rest of the money, or use it for goodies like a Polini 165cc cylinder and SIP speedo. Or a P200

The reason that estimate is so high is they basically wanted to replace every part with a scratch, including the engine which is $1500 and the front frame,$800, and the labor would have been $2100.

Today I... tried to install a neutral light switch on my P200e. I'd bought two from India via ebay. After f*ing with one until I stripped the threads, I started again with the second, only to realize that they were working back-ass-wards. Going out in neutral, staying on in 1st thru 4th.

Yeah, the knobends sent me, what I believe to be after googling, front break switches.

Ready to just plug the hole and say bugger it.
