I was sitting at a traffic light and the lens just fell off my headlight onto the pavement in front of me and shattered.

The light is still working, but sitting exposed, so it won't stay that way if I ride too much more without a new lens, I'm sure.

Meh.

Same thing happened to me on my '03 Stella. But it hit the front fender and then iito the junk by the side of the road. It put a small chip in the paint and I duct taped the lens back on. A few months before that, there was a new/old stock Stella at Vespa of Charlotte that the salesman was trying to unload. The customer was very interested and was ready to buy until the lens fell off and hit the floor, shattering it. This happened just because the guy sat on the scoot as the salesman was telling him what a quality product it was. Deal went up in flames.

A propane pencil torch will work best, nice and precise so you don't burn other shit. Don't try a butane mini torch, they don't provide enough heat.

"Pencil" is just a name for the smallest common sized propane torch tip, it isn't anything like a pencil, nor is the flame the size of a pencil tip.

Pulled my smallframe motor again to fix a gasket leak between the cases and look for a mystery air leak. Found no signs of leakage at the intake, the head, or the cylinder base. I assume one of the seals is screwed up, will replace them all for insurance while I've got it apart. Getting faster, motor on the bench in about 1 hour.

Ginch, not bad, but had previous nicasil damage I found and covered in this thread...

Scuffed cylinder wall. Action necessary?

I believe this happened because I modified my stock carb box so that the hole matched the carb port on the case. This wouldn't necessarily cause an issue on its own, but I didn't consider tuning and jetting after doing the work.

So at 70mph, nearly holing the piston was the consequence!

Luckily it just died, instead of seizing. I was in the car pool lane at dusk on a busy Saturday (see my profile pic) It could have been very bad.

Now I'm in the market for a new kit. Thinking about getting a Malossi, but another Pinasco SuperSport is nearly a $100 USD cheaper.

I need it quick too, 2 local rallies are at the end of May.

Not sure if the stuff in your case is like JB... but I found JB a real bugger to grind.

Not idle, Jack.....
Well, the 28mm carb is now on the PX125 (Polini 177 and Scorpion exhaust) along with a new barrel and piston (ported) and is pulling like a (slightly boggy with a cough) train. Yeah, it may be overkill, but so far it's great fun.....

Shame I've got no idle whatsoever really.

I figure I can cope with that though until I get it run in, then bang it on a dyno to get it dialed in. The temptation to scream the shit out of it is pretty high though........it's like giving a monkey the keys to a banana factory and asking him to wait quietly outside until you get there....

Glad I got the Pinascos then. BTW they were a piece of piss to put together. Fit on the PX disc hub no worries. I'm thinking they changed the design from the early ones. There is more machined out on the hub side so that they fit onto the star disc hub.

So I had to replace the piston base gasket. This time I made sure to securely zip tie the timing chain to the cam sprocket so I wouldn't have to remove the clutch again. Well the chain slipped off the idler gear as I was putting the head on, so I had to remove the clutch again. I didn't have any trouble getting the nut off, well no more than usual. But the fucking tab washer, first I had some trouble bending the tab out, then the washer spun with the nut and sheared the tab that keys it to the crank. Every fucking time I've removed the clutch, this has happened, so I used up all my replacements already. So I'm going to use an M12 split lock washer till I either buy a hex clutch nut or buy a Cosa clutch.

Tomorrow I have the first range day for the BRC.

Found my case leak on the smallframe. Poor fitting gasket. Sucks, most kits that you buy don't have a whole set of gaskets that fit. The ones from vendor 1 include this case gasket. The ones from vendor 2 all have a clutch cover gasket that couldn't possibly work. Mix and match it is.

Last day of the Basic Rider Course today, passed the skills test so it's to the License Center tomorrow. Ordered an SIP Cosa clutch from Hodgespeed, reinforced and all, soon no more worrying about my clutch exploding. Hopefully it will arrive around the same time my Polini cylinder is done being decked at a local motorcycle machine shop. Should get my scooter back together tomorrow so I can ride, unfortunately it's going to be cold this week.

Took a nice long ride on the SS. I also noticed the way the clutch cable is routed it sits on top of the muffler. May need to get a heat wrap for it. Anyone have suggestions?

Maybe you're missing one of those cable holders, like the one that keeps the gear cables away from the exhaust header.
