My wife and I are headed up to Estes Colorado June 4th to visit a fiber and wool fair. As well as celebrate our 31st Anniversary and her Birthday. We have never been there and we are curious if anyone who has or lives there can tell us about fun things to do, places to eat, etc. We are hauling the scooter up so we can ride it around town and do the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Cheesy Lee's pizza is a great place to eat. Fly fishing is great up there, you have to do the Trail Ridge Road if you're not scared of heights. And of course, explore as much as the park as you can, it's really wonderful.

I'll go ahead and give a thumbs up to Estes Park Brewery.
Good beer and pizza, especially after a day of hiking in the Park. |

Estes Park is a wonderful place to celebrate your anniversary. It is at the gates of the Rocky Mountain National Park.
Here's what to do: Stay at the Discovery Lodge (formerly Hobby Horse), which has a cabin feel, right along the river. This has been a family run motel for generations. There is a hot tub, and fireplaces available. Call them for reservations, and ask for the cabin towards the water. Each has a walkout balcony with comfortable chairs. From there, you can walk the river path, have breakfast at the Egg & I (1/4 mile), then visit all the curio and antique shops in town. July 4 is the car show in town. Lodging might be difficult to find, unless you make arrangements early. In the evening, catch dinner at the Rock Inn Mountain Tavern, just one mile towards the National Park gate from town. There, you must have the garlic stuffed dates wrapped with bacon, and a steak. Here is the full menu. Check out how reasonable are the prices are. On the second day, take a drive into the National Park. There are many places to stop and follow foot trails. The mountain wildflowers will be blooming. Bring a jacket, because it still may snow across the Continental Divide. The drive to Granby Lake in the west side is gorgeous, unless you get carsick, because you then must head back east the same way you came. |

You will love Estes Park.
Wanna do it like a local? For lunch or dinner,,,try out "Nepals". Great food...great prices. My favorite coffee spot in the morning is along the river at "Coffee On The Rocks". and...like previous post... watch out for Elk! AJ |

We got back from our trip to Estes. I have to say it wasn't what I was expecting. It turned out to be way better! We are planning another trip back next year. Thanks for all the suggestions.
In the end we decided not to take the scooter due to rain, snow and wind conditions. (3rd failed scooter vacation so far this season!) Hopefully you won't mind if I share a few photos. I know since the scooter is not posing in the shots it's no longer scooter related. I scooter stand is still Italian! So let us begin. Our trip to Estes Colorado in pictures. ![]() We had 2 routes from Ut. We chose the longer route through Steamboats springs. Glad we did. We didn't realize that this route was taking us through the park to get to Estes. We were glad we did. We saw a lot of neat stuff as dusk approached. "Watch
![]() "Trail Ridge road" had only just opened for the season. As you can see by the the snow along the road at the top is taller then my car!
![]() At the top, at dusk, almost 15,000 ft. elevation we got some spectacular sunset shots. (you can image the scooter here instead of the fiat if you like. I know I did.)
![]() First lunch was downtown at the Wild Rose. I got German Jaegerschnitzel. It was very good. In fact we had no bad food on this trip at all. Every restaurant was fun, clean, good service and good food.
![]() in Sprague Lake we got to witness a moose grazing. No less then 30 feet away.
![]() We witnessed a Goshawk take down a rabbit in front of us on one of the hiking trails.

![]() Best meal of the trip hands down was Smokin Dave's BBQ. This is probably the best BBQ I have ever had.
![]() Estes Park Brewery. The food here was good, but typical burger, dogs and fries stuff. The beer was good though
![]() We stopped by the snowy peaks winery for some sampling. We wanted to buy a few bottles for the trip. The woman told us that if we bought a case we would get a 10% discount. So we did. This was an unusual thing for us to get a discount on liquor. UT doesn'
![]() We came up for the wool market at the fairgrounds. My wife spins fiber into yarn. She dyes it and either uses it to knit or sells it. We only spent 2 hours here looking at knitting, fiber stuff. This was what brought us to Estes to begin with. But the pa
![]() I couldn't resist this picture. It was at the fairgrounds. The plates last date of registration was 1997. I suspect they use it as a fairgrounds tool. Brought back a few memories for me and my wife. We did see a helix and a burgy, no Vespa's.
