Gotten outrageous here again. Don't know about the mainland but gas stations here will give up to 10 cents off a gallon if you pay cash. 8) Hey every bit adds up.

No surprise. The US policy pertaining to gasoline has been to provide abundant, relatively cheap gasoline at the pump.

A better analysis would separate out the taxes included in the total inflation adjusted price. Doing so would reveal that the gas itself has generally just gotten cheaper over time, not the apparent reverse.

I'd like to see the breakdown of the individual state taxes on top of the Feds. Even city taxes added too.
Driving on some potholed pathways you'd swear no taxes were in place at all. In my area of the world, the roads used by our tourist crowds are great. Go outside of that area and you'll probably see a gator swimming in a pothole. Think we can all give some great examples of this type of tax use. Oh well....time for a shock upgrade. |

In Michigan, they want to up the gas tax for the roads....even though, we are 18th, in gas taxes right now! Our roads are a mess, the state gave business a big tax break, and start taxing pensions! They should tax trucks more, one full truck, does the damage of 50,000 cars.....and I don't know how many scooters!

Of course, taxing the trucks will result in freight prices rising a slightly larger amount than the increased tax (mark up of expenses for profit). This will raise the cost of goods to all consumers, which will also be subject to sales tax. So in the final analysis, levying lets say $500 million in additional taxes on trucks will raise prices by $510 million (2% profit), plus an average of 6% sales tax, or a final total bill to the consumer of $541 million, in increased costs of goods. There is no such thing as a free lunch. |
