I lost the screw right under the headlight of my GTS while changing the bulb. It fell somewhere inside the Vespa. It's a tiny screw, so I've given up trying to retrieve it.

Does anyone know what's the best way to go about getting a replacement screw?

Here's a diagram of the head light. The screw I lost is number 8 in the diagram.

It's nothing special, a sheet metal screw will work. Get one at the hardware store.

Fastest way if you want OEM would be to take the diagram to a vespa dealer and point at the screw you are missing. Even better get the part number and give that to him/her.

Take #11 to the hardware store with you and get one like it. I believe they are the same screw. Don't guess at the size because if you get one too large you will split the plastic while screwing it in.

all kidding aside, grab a cold tallboy of something decent and head to the dealer. present cold tallboy and plead your case and the tech will probably give you the right screw.

please don't go shoving just anything in there. it is a specific screw and clip, using something from the hardware store will most likely be too long, too short, have the wrong head (thus interfering with the headset) or just break the clip.

When a Vespa service facility loses a screw they just replace it with whatever is laying around. My rear crash bars have different bolts on each side and neither is like the original.

19mm is 3/4" near as bloody damn it. #8 x 3/4" is fine. However you local Ace hardware probably has the exact metric equivalent if you're worried about 1.5 thou...

Thanks guys! I'll probably ask my dealer to see if he has any spare screws.

Glad you found them. Those two screws #8 and #9 are not the same size. There should be a washer with that one as well. As you can see in the diagram. If you try the #8 it will most certainly crack your instrument panel back cove.

It's #8 in the diagram and also a #8 sized screw that we're talking about. You are correct, the #9 and #11 in the diagram are a much smaller diameter, but they're not the OP's problem.

A little late now, but next time stuff a shop rag into the gap between the legshield and the headset to catch the screw from falling into the abys.

Somebody here taught me that

Number 9 and 11 are the same screws. It would be a mistake to take #11 to the hardware store to replace #8 hence my post. Razz emoticon
