Finally watched it last night on Netflix streaming.
Gorgeous scooters.
Did this movie launch the US love for Italian scooters?
The little car, a Fiat, was cool too.

No, Sears did that bringing the Vespa here and renaming it Allstate. Vespa finally starting importing years later on their own.

I never knew that. Nerd emoticon Funny, it comes full circle for me...my first PTW was a Sears Puch 50cc cycle.

Yes, movie is a classic.....

Love the music and the movie. It's what made me get into scooters more than 30 years ago.

You should absolutely take the time to do that! It was Audrey Hepburn's first big role and helped make her a star. Add on all the shooting on location around Rome, an excellent story and the period vehicles and you have the recipe for an amazing movie.

It's funny too because Sears also owned Allstate Insurance. Any link there?

Yes, and at one time one could buy one of Kaiser's Henry J sedan badged as an 'Allstate', along with the aforementioned Puch mopeds and Cushman scooters...

I say the same about Easy Rider. Total crap except for a couple good riding scenes and the sound track.

Regarding the original post... I didn't realize the US loved Italian scooters. In fact the vast majority (not those at modern Vespa) couldn't tell the difference between a Vespa and a kimco, Honda, Yamaha, etc.

This. ^^^^^Totally agree with Craig. Easy Rider was absolute garbage except for the scenery, music and bikes. Dennis hopper was funny, though. Also, most people now still don't know a Vespa from a crap Chinese scoot, with the exception of members on here. Quality always wins out.

No! I was surprised that it was actually pretty good. Maybe my expectations were low.
