A while back I was reading about a guy who swapped his LML/Stella 2-part coil and CDI for a Ducati CDI. Worked fine.

Someone posted that the LML stator was too much for the Ducati CDI and it would burn something out... can't remember what. This didn't sound right but someone might know better.

I've compared an LML stator to a Piaggio one and visually they were identical. Green, White, Red, Black and Blue wires. The LML stators are rated at 96 watts I think. There are 120 watt stators available that still use the Ducati CDI.

Anyone have an opinion?

There are two different systems LML used.

One is electrically identical to the Ducati, and will work with a ducati CDI. However, some tests have shown. That the split cdi setup LML uses produces a slightly stronger and more consistent spark.

The other system is different and is not interchangeable with ducati components; this system is easiest to identify by tne arm sticking out of the stator that has the external pickup on it and the flywheel with removable fanwheel.

These were shipped to various markets for various years, for various models. In the US, pre-22006 labor strike stellas have the LML designed system and post 2006 strike models had the ducati style system.

I beleive this is a 2010 model. It doesn't have the external pickup.

I want to use the Ducati CDI to save space. My friend hit a car that pulled out on him and it was written off. He has an earlier Bajaj frame he's been wanting to build up... now has a good reason.
He wants to go batteryless (never uses the electric start) or maybe a small battery so as not to waste space in the cowl glovebox. So if we can keep all wiring out of it that would be great.
