Steve suggested we figure out what scooters are represented here. So, tell us what you ride, whether it's a modern Vespa or not.

I ride a Vintage Green GT200. My wife has a Honda Metropolitan.

1973 is modern right?
Ok, so its older than I am but I'd still call that modern.

Its a 1973 Vespa Primavera. My first vespa, and hopefully not my last.

I did not know that, although now that you mention it I remember something vague about Piaggio selling engines to Peugeot.

Funny... I googled "Peugeot Looxor 150" and the top hit I got was yours. I guess it is a small world, after all.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think I'm the only person who owns one that is actually online. Well, maybe the only English speaking person. That's awesome that I'm tops on google for that. Peugeot also bought engines from Honda, which is where their liquid cooled 4 stroke engines come from.

Hi, I"m new to this forum. I have an 06 GT200 and the wife has 05 Honda Metropolitan. We're new to scootering in the US, but have some time on a Suzuki 125 when we lived in Manila. That was interesting!! Look forward to learning and contributing on this forum. Someone mentioned the Phoenix scooter club -- Scarabs -- I believe. Can you give me contact information?
Thanks

I'm new to this board. I'm riding an '05 GT200 with a two-tone custom paint job (Sunset Orange and Vanilla -- I call it the "Dreamsicle"!).

Dreamsicle photos: http://kevjot.com/photos/050305customvespa/
(It's looks redder than it actually is in these pics. If you have ever seen an orange Honda Element it is the exact same color.)

that paint job is awesome!

i've been wanting to paint mine since i bought it as a salvage bike that has some dents and scratches, so no reason not to paint it. but I've been needing ideas and inspiration.

looking good!

Hello all...
I don't have a Vespa, but came in for a look around. I have an Aprilia Mojito Retro, 50cc (now being made by Piaggio, so I kinda fit in here ). I just like to see/hear what everyone does with their scoots, as far as mods, accessories, where and how they ride, etc...you could call me a little obsessed (I'm sure some of you know what I mean). Anyways, thank you Jess for yet another place for me to waste my companies' time...it's looking good so far! If any of you are in the LA area, give a shout, and come out for the Friday night rides w/ Reflections SC.

Here's a pic of my little scoot:

Hello from Australia!
Hi from Oz!

I have a 2005 GT200 in gloss back with a Givi topcase, which I use to commute about 20 miles each way to and from work most days.

I also have an old Honda dirt bike and 2004 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200R, so I like a bit of variety in my 2 wheeled toys

Looking forward to a friendly, relatively flame-free forum, where we can focus on all things Vespa and not constantly get bogged down on the merits or otherwise of Chinese scooters.

From where I sit, as long as you enjoy what you are riding, you're ok in my book - though of course we Vespa riders know something the others don't...

Cheers!
Bob

Kevin - Tell us more about the Dreamsicle paint, and how it came to be.

I'd also be curious to hear the story of how the ET4 became not to be.

Yeah, brother, I'm with ya. On some boards (that shall remain nameless) people seem more interested in focusing on their differences (new or old, 2-stroke, twist-n-go, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, etc.) than the common interests than brought them to the board to start with.

Here's hoping for harmony on modernvespa.com.

I'll answer those questions in reverse, Jess, as they are (sort of) related.

I had an ET4 for about 18 months when I was scooter-jacked at gunpoint here in DC. I live in what you might call a "transitional" neighborhood. I was unhurt, but they got the scoot. I assume that you saw the pics of the dead ET (http://kevjot.com/photos/040715deadscoot/). The cops recovered it a few weeks later...completely trashed. I had already ordered a new GT. Just coincendentally I picked up the ET carcass from the police lot the same day I was going to get the GT (hence the green GT in the last few pics).

I had been thinking about custom paint of the ET and after a few months with the GT I decided to get it done. I liked the idea of having something completely unique. Our DC Vespa shop (just can't call it a boo-teek!) had worked with a painter before on one GT and lots of older scoots. They said the painter was really good. I wondered if they could do the kind of two-tone job that I wanted because there is not actually a seam between the "fenders" (or whatever they'd be called) and they rest of the side rear body panels. The guys at the shop (who I know and like) said it was no problem, and it did turn out great. Better than I hoped, actually.

The only problem has been peeling paint on front, side exhaust grills. They were painted off-white, too (from the original gray). I'm going to have to get them redone with something more heat-resistant.

I've gotten lots of great feedback from people on it. I'm almost surprised that Vespa hasn't considered some kind of two-tone "limited edition". It certainly fits in with the retro styling that they are going for.

So that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Kevin

i also have a fleet of vintage vespas in various states of disarray; ie being fixed, upgraded, patched or modified.

my name is greasy and i have a problem...

Welcome to the forum, ultrarider and xman. Glad to have you.

On a side note, I'm surprised how many GT200s are here and conversely how few LX150s there are. The LX150 is a fine scooter, I thought it would be more evenly distributed.

Anyone have U.S. sales figures for Vespas?

Mia 2005 Vespa ET4 Piccolo Giocattolo Motorino
I ride a deep blue metallic 2005 ET4. It's current options include the matching top-box, clear Piaggio Euro turn signal and brake lens and assemblies, chrome retro mirrors, large Piaggio windscreen (for winter riding) and Conti Zippi 1 tires.

I tend to ride about 50 to 150 miles a day, so the mileage adds up quickly. I logged 1,300 miles during the last 4 weeks of mostly rainy weather.

I do my own maintenance. I'm even seriously considering doing my own tire changes for the ET4. It's hard to justify paying the $35 per wheel for mounting, that I've been paying for my past (and current) motorcycles.

The ET4 has surpassed my expectations in performance, handling, ride quality, and machine quality.

Well, the GT200 has been available now for a year and a half or so, while the LX150 has only been available since the start of this summer. Also, people considering buying a new 50/150cc Vespa with 10" wheels could well have preferred to snap up a discontinued-but-new ET4 at a considerable discount to the LX150.

...Also, people considering buying a new 50/150cc Vespa with 10" wheels could well have preferred to snap up a discontinued-but-new ET4 at a considerable discount to the LX150.
I've seen other Web posts eluding to discounted 2005 ET4s, but I was not able to substantiate that. Every Vespa dealer I canvased sold their ET4s for the $3999 list price, which happens to be just $200 less than the LX150's list price. Does anyone know for a fact that a 2005 ET4 was sold at a discount from list price? From my research, and subsequent purchase of a 2005 ET4, this is just an urban rumor.

When we got my wife's LX, they had one ET4 left, and a lady was considering buying it or an LX. I don't know if they were offering a discount on it, but she bought the ET.

We did, however, get $100 discount on her LX.
