Note! I am not a mechanic and what I do / learn is by trial and error. I have received a significant amount of help / advice from Modern Vespa Forum Members and Staff.

I have used several auxiliary fuel tanks with my GT-200. Two have been temporarily mounted and one has been permanently mounted. The first two were 2.5 and a 6.0 Gallon respectfully. The permanent mount is a 2.25 Gallon Plastic "Tour Tank", originally sold as a "Wind Bag" prior to being re-named. It appeared like a "Bed Roll" when it was available in the plastic version but now is sold as an Aluminum Tank with two options to make it appear as a "Bed Role" or whatever. My original's canvas cover began to rot so I decided to take off the canvas cover and just re-mount the plastic tank. I do not have access to a Digital Camera all the time so the original install was undocumented. As a result I documented the "uninstall" of the original in hopes of properly identifying what I had previously done. In addition, I chose to replace the fuel line I installed originally. The fuel line I chose at that time became very brittle and I was concerned about having a leak as the result of its brittleness. The pictures I will include are just that, pictures. I'm still learning to make / modify them to better explain what I did.

Thanks for the photos, Mike. Can you tell us whether you feel a change in the handling with a full gas tank?

Handling
I have been using the Tank for about 18 months now. "I" do not notice a difference. The Tank holds +- 2.25 Gallons so the weight must be about +- 14 Pounds. I'm guessing at the weight.

When I did the original install, I drove with the Tank filled with water and not plumbed in to the system. I did this to insure that what I had rigged would support the weight while riding on rough finished road surfaces. It worked fine so I plumed it in and went to Gas Vs. Water.

As I understand it, Water weighs about one pound per pint and Gas, depending on the additives and octane, weighs about 6.26 pounds per Pint. At any rate, I figured that by using the water, I'd over stress the mountings to insure they would hold.

My apologies for the disorder of the photo's, I just didn't get them in the order I intended them to be. I also did not get the names / captions of my photo's to load - appear on them once I loaded them. Sorry!

Best regards,

Mike Lynch

Mike, I think you meant gasoline weighs about 6.26 pounds per gallon. You obviously know water weighs more from your comments, just wanted to point out the typo.

Floorboard removal
I notice in your photos that you had to remove the floorboard to do your install. What's the trick to doing this? I need to route some wires under the floorboard and I cannot seem to find all the screws that are holding it down.

I've removed the 3 screws on each side under the outside rubber strip. And the 4 screws on the batter cover. I also removed the larger screws on the battery hold-down. But there must be something else holding down the floorboard near the rear.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I'll give it a try.
I'll need to look in the morning when the Sun is up.

I do not remember exactly how many but in the morning I'll check it out.
