Let's have some fun here and highlight the locations of our members.

Ok, here's the deal. Kinda like scooter tag with a big twist.

In remembrance of the 45th anniversary of the first moon landing on July 20th, I'll start this off by mailing a special Astronaut Snoopy to a member of my choice. I'll contact my choice via a PM for prior approval and mailing instructions. When Snoopy is received, take a pic of him sitting on your scooter with something special related to your community and post on this thread.

Now it's up to that person to choose another member and mail Snoopy to continue the process. Oh yeah, don't forget to sign Snoopy's red scarf before his next journey.

This Snoopy is no rookie. He's already traveled to two of our 'space heroes'. Fred Haise, Apollo 13 LMP and Charlie Duke, Apollo 16. The 10th man to walk on the moon. Both have signed him and attached their mission pins. ( Your scooter photo with Snoopy will be emailed to each of them. Any comments received from them will be posted on this thread.) Our Snoopy has flown on a T38 military jet. Also, one of the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner test planes and most recently flew aboard the 'Panchito', a Mitchell B-25 WWII bomber.

Great Karma will come to each person that keeps Snoopy traveling throughout the world! And, most importantly, keep the thoughts of space exploration amongst us and future generations.

So, to start this off I need to pick a member. Hmmm....heading to the post office. Who could that be? Watch for the next post & pic soon!

Bob

Here's our Snoopy at the MV starting line posing on a GTS in front of the NASA Apollo monument. It's located adjacent to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida where, most appropriately, it all began.

Sounds fun...I already have an option...who knows?

Funny story about Panchito. He was at the EAA convention here a few years back, and we took out daughter to the air show. We'd looked over the warbirds before the show. When the flying started, they changed the lineup a bit and announced that Panchito wasn't going to fly. Our daughter, maybe 3 or 4 years old threw a big fit and spent 15 minutes lying on a bench crying, because Panchito wasn't able to fly. Drama, anyone?

Hopefully Snoopy will be sent to his "birthplace" at some point in his travels. Charles Schultz lived in Santa Rosa, where the airport is aptly named the Charles M. Schultz - Sonoma County Airport.
The Pacific Coast Air Museum is adjacent to the airport where the "Wings Over the Wine Country" Air Show takes place this year September 20-21st.
Your Snoopy would feel right at home at any time.

clarification
Received a couple of emails from some enthusiastic members.

No, I am not the person that decides where Snoopy goes next. It's totally up to the individual that received Snoopy to make that choice. And, yes, when you make a choice please PM that individual for their permission and delivery info. Also, the person mailing him to the new destination is responsible for the postage.

When you send him off to another member, please keep it a secret. That's part of the fun. Not knowing until new photos are posted. Surprise!

Hope this clears things up. ... So, lets get this rolling.

Just thinking, especially as there are newer members who don't really have a lot of MV "friends" to chose from, it might be an option for the "Snoopy-holder" to get or solicit PMs from anyone who's excited about the option and doesn't want to wait.

As I said, just a thought..

Dave, so far I don't think that's going to be an issue. I started receiving requests within the first 20 minutes of my original post. Had two more this morning.

I think the next person that gets him will experience the same thing. Didn't realize so many members wanted to participate.

With that said, you're right. The person that currently holds Snoopy can solicit or do whatever they choose. It's up to them. That's what I think will make this fun. The uncertainty.

Please consider me. I am a big Peanuts fan. It turns out I was born, years later, on Charles Schultz's birthday. I even have a sticker of Snoopy looking surprised on my scooter. The drawing of snoopy appeared on our shared birthday in 1988. http://www.gocomics.com/peanuts/1988/11/26#.U8lmXPldWSo

I bought this sticker from the Charles Schultz museum.

Several requests have been made to 'ask' for Snoopy. Thought the receiving member could solicit him. But, in the interest of saving time between stops, if you'd like, go ahead and add your clever request to this thread. Should make his next destination a little easier to find. Please remember that if you receive him, you're responsible for his transportation fees.

Now, as for Snoopy's status. I hear he's in flight and due to land very soon. Safe landings Snoopy!

Send snoopy here and I'll take him around to some of the horse farms and introduce him to our local horse celebrities, from there he and I could hit the Distillery District, get him a taste or two along with photos and all. Hell, we could even pop over to Frankfort and visit Daniel Boone's gravesite. Snoop Dawg and I could have a large time here in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky. Send him on, I've got an extra Dawg House.

Fun stuff. I got into Geocaching years ago and bought a travel bug. I sent it out and off it went around the globe. If you haven't already sent him along, you may want to invest in a travel bug for Snoop to wear like "dog tags" as they will give you a sweet map and follow her around as she travels (in addition to the photos).

Here is one I did more than 10 years. She made the travels over 5 years.

Snoopy has landed
Yup, he's here and i'd like to thank and am honored that Flordian chose me to be the first person to have snoopy. 8) Also would like to apologize that i've had him for so long but as you will soon see nothing in my life is simple but it's interesting. I wanted to use Dillingham airfield as the backdrop. Specifically Kaena point. It got done but between the rain, highs winds and swat team arresting a dude that was flying banners out there, i haven't had much luck, until today. So long and so few pics but the stories i have are priceless. Dillingham airfield was the first place the Japanese planes came over Oahu at Kaena point during WWII. The rest as they say, is history. Most people will see it in the Jurassic Park movies or on the TV series Lost. The plane on the beach was just beyond the west gate,on the right, where i took the pics of the point with Snoopy on the rear rack of my scooter. The plane was actually stored out at the airfield, hidden back where only a few knew. I knew because i'm nosy.
So the minute snoopy got here we had bad weather from the tail end of hurricane Wali. Even tho the airstrip is only a few miles up the road it's close to the mountains. Either i had wind and rain or they did. So Wednesday i ventured out to have a look. Stopped in at the glider port to ask Bill, (owner of a glider ride shop) a bit about what i could get away with. We used to race our scooters down the runway after 6pm before 9/11 but now their uber strict. So i see an old military plane sitting out there and ask Bill if i can get a pic of Snoopy on it. It was the plane of a pilot who does a few trips for him a week, He was taking a glider up but when he got back i asked him. When i told him what i wanted his face lit up.So it seems, Fred Haise the astronaut, was his childhood hero. When he saw his signature he was like a kid at Christmas. 8) I got a couple of pics. See below. I asked about being so close to the runway with the pic i wanted and he says "go over and ask the security guard i"m sure if you do it later (skydiving stops at about 5pm) they shouldn't have a problem with it. I tend to not get permission but even tho the airport really isn't used much except for glider rides and skydiving i thought i should. So over i go. Wrong. I needed permission from Honolulu's main airport director for a pic. doomed now that i've asked or so i think. So the security guard (big black guy) thinks i'm nuts but gives me the name of the guy i need to get permission from. As i'm riding away he goes "i met some astronauts". So i ride back around and say "who". John Glenn and the gang. He grew up in Huntsville Al home of the original NASA and when desegregation happened (parents were profs at an all black college there) he got to go to NASA and meet everyone. So,now what are the odds of 2 people i've met so far either knowing them or idolizing them? Love my life. So get a hold of the secretary for the guy that needs to sign off on me taking a pic and she emails me the form. She emails me the form but it take's me a while to scan the damn thing after i fill it out. :roll:My new computer didn't recognize my printer. Finally got it done but it wouldn't get seen until Friday. So im waiting for it on Friday and when 4pm rolls around i call her. It had been sent. Well i didn't get it. She said she called the airport and they knew i was coming. She resent it. At 5pm i still didn't get it but now it's raining. Call her back and she gave me a few days to do it. If i had known it was going to be such a big deal i would of just taken the pic and dealt with the Federal prison later. I hear the foods pretty decent. However the security guard was interesting from the other day so it was worth it IMHO. So this morning i took Snoopy out to the airport for a few snaps. The runways kinda behind me but i checked in with the security guard who was on duty to give him a heads up. I could go wherever i wanted to. Will try the runway later but i have the shot i wanted. All that for a few pics. Oh and all the Feds on Oahu think i'm nuts. They got the snoopy thing but hadn't a clue what a Vespa was. So he's off on Monday to his next destination. I'll deny anything snoopy says happened here BTW, I added a little something from my town to the next recipient. Got something (cool hat) from Flordian. I'll put the pics of the old Army plane in a new reply. It won't take anymore or it's computer annoying me again. Forgot about telling you whats up with the SWAT team. Seems a company from FL (go figure ) was using our runway out here to take off and land with a banner behind his plane advertising something. We don't have billboards and it's illegal to fly planes with a banner. They had already given him a ticket but he did it again. They shut down the airport for a while, right at the time i wanted to go out and have a look between rainstorms. Have a safe flight snoopy and to the next person, have fun.

Excellent choice, Judy! I used to ride by Dillingham frequently when I lived on Oahu - itv was a nice diversion on the way to Haleiwa & Jameson's by the beach...
