Looks like a pretty good deal to me. Wonder if they've got the maintenance records ?

Low mileage.

Look around here and you'll find all the questions you should ask the seller.

It was owned by an older retired gentlemen who split/spent his time between Florida and Connecticut. The dealer has replaced master cylinder and oil. My worry is if there is rust at the bottom due to time in Florida (salty sea air) and how much it will cost to get it in nice shape. But looks like a fun project and a good way to learn, I haven't worked on a scooter before...

It needs a new rear tyre and the belt and rollers will need changing as well - so factor that in.

Yeah looks like a good deal even if it has some rust. Though the salted road of CT would probably cause more problems than the salt air in Florida unless he live right on the beach and parked it outside.

Are these expensive? Would after market ones (Dr Pully, Mallosi etc.) make it faster? Also, the front end, brakes and shocks look a bit worn...

It's in CT and I am in Washington DC but have friend in CT (rides sport bike GXR 750) who will look at it firs before I expend the effort.
But, so far your collective input is positive (given the limited info. provided). I am tempted to do it...

I have a friend here whose selling his 300 for twice that and it's been backed into twice. If you DIY maybe $350 for all the parts and changing the rear tire and the belt change isn't to bad. Tutorials on both. Good luck. Make sure there's 2 keys. Blue on and a reddish brown one tho. The reddish brown is the master key to the CDI. Ooops i forget that you get free shipping on some stuff there so my estimate is probably high. Good luck

The tyre isn't expensive if you take the wheel off and in to a dealer to get it changed - perhaps $90. Belt and rollers are DIY, say $80. The belt probably isn't worn, but will need changing due to age. The rollers are cheap enough to change at the same time regardless. On a 300 I wouldn't bother with an aftermarket variator, the performance is good enough as it is, but Dr Pulley sliders will make it slightly smoother on take-off. The brake pads may need attention, but unlikely at ~6,000 miles. Shocks may look jaded, but as sealed units, if they work and haven't leaked oil, they'll be fine. All that is pretty standard.

Your main effort will be on prettying up the body work, if you want to.

Seems mis-labeled (?)
In 2009, wasn't the GTS a 250?

Also, it looks like the top case is not aligned with the centerline of the scooter; I'd check for damage around the seat pan from the crashes it has had (or it's just mounted off center).

From the corrosion and discolored plastics it looks like it was stored outside. Check the tires for cracking.

I would probably shove a Q-tip into the airbox through the bubble holes. The bubbles themselves are clear, which after that many years and miles I am inclined to think they were replaced. It's the sort of thing that makes me worry.

Even with all that, if I was looking I'd probably go for it, assuming it runs well during a test ride.

At that price I initially thought it was a scam. But after looking at the photos, it is in questionable condition. Rust and corrosion are things that I avoid. If that corrosion is in the electrical system you might be buying a lot of headaches.

They recalled due to fuel pump issues that year- check the vin for that. To me replacing the master cylinder on that age/mileage Vespa is a warning sign. Check the wiring, and the rear shocks (for rust) too.

It looks like a great deal.

But is that amount of rust on exposed metal parts normal? I live in FL - not on the gulf - a few miles away - but that seems excessive to me... But I could be wrong.

Did Connecticut get hit by Hurricane Sandy?

I'd open it up and look inside as much as you can....

I would look inside the battery case for more corrosion. Easy enough to do, especially with the battery removed.

The clock battery needs to be replaced. Tedious job.

Hurricane Sandy is the most important concern that corrosion looks bad enough to have been submerged in salt water. Still not a terrible price if you can get a couple of years riding.

checked the VIN number with Scooter West and it is a GTS 300 build in 4.10.2009, description matched the bike, they think it's a 2010 model.

The price is $1,500 so I asked for more photos and think this the bike isn't the right one for a first time project, the rust is too much. I am going to pass on this bike.

It seems WLeuthold had it right...

Ugh - far too much rust to consider it as a financially sensible project.

Give them $1000. Lots of rust but if it runs the parts might be worth something. Might not look pretty but it'll get you riding on a Vespa. see how low they'll go

Talk about no worries
More I see it the more inclined I'd be to buy it. I'm not in the market, and even if I was it's way too far away. Something about that bike just says "ride it like you stole it".

From the pics I'd pay a grand out the door if it runs and rides. The parts would be worth that but not a penny more.

I noticed the luggage rack looks a little off as well. I had an accident on my GT 200 where the frame was bent. The insurance company totaled it because it is very expensive to fix a bent frame. I would be very cautious.
