A recent near miss and my own curiosity got the better of me so I bought a Wolo mini but loud horn from ebay for $5.99. I'm admittedly intimidated by the work required for the Stebel Nautilus so I was happy to find a simpler solution.

The swap out was quick and easy so I thought I'd post a few pics if any of y'all wanted to try this.

My opinion? It's LOUD. Probably about twice as loud as the stock horn. The pitch is the same but now your 'meepmeep' will scare someone next to you. I've seen it listed as anywhere from 100-116db on the web. No idea what the stock horn is rated at. Again, it's no Nautilus by any means but for $6 it's a good alternative.

A special thanks to Smorris for answering a few of my electrical questions!

The finished install.

All wired up. I didn't pay attention when I took it apart unfortunately .
I don't know if it really matters but I wired it with the GRAY wire on the top terminal
and the BLACK on the bottom terminal, it works just fine that way.

You'll have to loosen this 8mm bolt that holds the fuse bracket and the horn bracket underneath.
Hold on to it, you don't want to go fishing for it down in the innards of the legshield.

The back view. Wolo on the left, stock horn on the right.

The front view. As you can see they're very similar. The Wolo (left) is actually just a little smaller than the stock horn.

And here I though I had everything the right order...

Anway, on to post #2.

MY MISTAKES.
Be careful when you swap out the horn bracket. I put it on backwards at first and the Wolo was grounding against the fuse block inside the legshield and it still worked but sounded really bad before I figured out what I did.

I also re-used all the washers that are on the stock horn setup. The Wolo came with a ground wire but you will not need this.

The wrong way.

The right way.

Last but not least.

The bolt on the back of the stock Vespa horn is TOUGH to remove. I had to break out the vise-grips and get a hold of the edge of the horn and wrench it pretty hard to break the tension. This bolt is a 10mm.

Also, beware the edges of the legshield, very sharp! I got about five papercuts while messing around with this and I've got pretty small hands. It's a cramped work space to say the least.

Ouch!

You're welcome. If you google it, you'll find it. I got mine off ebay and that seemed like the cheapest place from what I remember. I found them in quite a few places. Ebay, JC Whitney, Amazon, general auto parts warehouse sites.

Wolo mini' but loud horn
Well, I just found one, actually they had four, on ebay $5.99 plus $6.95 shipping and handling (steep) Oh well. I didn't check to see the what the cost of a new Vespa horn would be. I imagine that you already determined that the price of the Wolo made it a better deal. Anyway thanks again. RV Dave I have a 2006 Vespa 150 LX

Dave, did you buy them?

I'll gladly purchase one from you on saturday (July 7th) or Sunday (July 8th)

My wife and I are back in Fresno for a wedding. The wolo/stebel is one of my planned upgrades. If I could purchase it from you for $15...that'd be great!

I hadn't heard of these Wolos before. I'm definitely going to buy one-at that price it's worth giving it a shot. Thanks for the tutorial on the install. I'm sure it'll come in handy.

A quick update. After a week of driving with the new horn, I would say it's not as loud as I originally thought but it's definitely louder than stock...and about $20 cheaper!

Wolo makes many horns, from what I have heard the Wolo Bad Boy is the same as the Stebel Nautilus, they do look a like.

The Wolo Mini but Loud Horn works fine!
Greetings all, I just installed the "Wolo Mini but Loud Horn" into my 2006 Vespa 150LX. It works fine. I don't have any comparison information as to the sound and volume because my horn didn't work when I bought my Vespa. I bought a used Vespa. RV Dave

$12.94 total cost, something like $5.95 for the horn then $6.99 for shipping and handling. The Vespa dealer wanted $30.00 US.

Many thanks to Gaseous Clay RV Dave
