Here's a copper Rolls Royce which is on display at the Harrah's Car Museum in Reno. Lots of Brasso.

Copper plated Rally
Hello I know this is way late, however this was brought to my attention. I am Bob Darnell and I am responsible for Copper plating this scooter. I was close friends with Cliff at Pappago Plating. This plater was located in Phoenix Arizona on Washington. Over the 17 years of CVoP I had chrome plated many large parts including Lambretta, M/C, ATV frames and even some out door table's. My friend and client MJ Coe asked me to help him complete a custom build on this Rally. While traveling in California, I saw a custom Harley chopper with every part copper plated and it was turning green and it look interesting and I liked it. I mentioned this to MJ and he said can we plate a Vespa in copper? I said I think, I will ask Cliff at Pappago Plating. He agreed and the rest is now history. I hope you still have it and enjoy it. I maybe able to answer any other questions if I can remember. Just PM me Cheers

Thanks for the backstory, Bob.

If you have any pictures of it when it was freshly plated, please post em up. I'd like to see it in its full former coppery glory.

full circle
Same here, nice to know more about how it was done and I'm hoping the OP sees this and posts up current status.

I believe the plating process works like this: First a heavier copper layer and then usually polished before a nickel layer and finally chrome. So I doubt there's chrome under that copper.

Are you still riding Vespas? Appreciate your taking the time to fill us in and your book has been most helpful to me, so here's another plug!

First time seeing that Rally. I love it!

Hope he never polished it... aged so so well.

They use yogurt to patina copper on roofs, for instance. Or there's this I found from Architectural Digest :
"Copper :
How to patina copper so that it's a lovely Lady Liberty shade of blue (called "verdigris")? Do as the wizards over at HGTV do and shake up a "patina cocktail": Mix two parts vinegar, one and a half parts ammonia, and one half part salt in a spray bottle. Prep your copper piece by cleaning it and then spraying it with window cleaner; then spray on a coat of patina cocktail and leave alone to air dry. Repeat-coating it in "patina cocktail" and then letting air dry-on a daily basis until you're happy with the finish."

Keep in mind that this is visual corrosion and consider the thickness of the plating.

I had this exact plan if I ever find a Vespa to do it to.

So nice looking, although the patina isn't patina'd enough for me personally. I like the green patina, like is under the headset.

I've PM'ed the original poster since I knew this bike existed after I had my 1964 VNB Copper plated, and also live in the Phoenix area.
Cool photo op and maybe become friends.
I opted to polish mine and have it clear coated.
It would be a awesome contrast!
