This is not a new thing on the Forum, but in the event that some folks start to see it, I wanted to mention it.
Not long after I got my GTS (2009) I began to see some darkening of the headlight reflector. Lens is unaffected.
It got increasingly darker, and less functional as a reflector.
In response I put in higher output bulbs for more illumination (compounding the problem with a hotter bulb?)
Heat is the obvious culprit. I don't know if it is convected or conducted or both (it does affect the top of the reflector only, the headlight pic is upside down).
The socket does seem to have discolored with heat, but is not melted.
Finally, I switched out the whole unit. I am mostly clueless on this one. The dealer claims that nothing is wrong with the wire/socket. There were some reported issues with the connectors on this forum but I never saw where there were details on the problem or solutions.
These headlight units are not "sealed" units, with a unique atmosphere, but they do not pass air easily from outside to inside, etc. I am wondering if some small holes in the reflector above and below the bulb might give some thermal dissipation.
