So, on my way to work yesterday I stopped at a light and noticed a gasoline smell. Since there was a gas station right there, I didn't think much of it until I look down and saw that I was standing in a puddle of gas, ready to imitate the Human Torch. I turned off the scoot, pushed it to the gas station, asked them if I could leave it there for the day and figured out a way to get to work because I really didn't have time to do anything on the spot.

Once at work, it took me literally 5 minutes on Modern Vespa to a) have the most likely diagnosis of the problem, and b) know exactly what I had to do to fix it. After work I stopped to buy a foot of fuel line and 2 hose clamps, then got a few tools from my garage and headed back to the gas station. In less than half an hour I had confirmed the problem (the all-too-common crack in the tap-to-pump hose), fixed it, and got my baby back home.

I know I haven't posted here in a long time (long story), but I wanted to really give my heartfelt thanks to Jess, the mods, and everyone who puts time here to both describe their mechanical problems and how to fix them, and/or help others do so. Clap emoticon

This is a direct result when people come together to be nice and help each other out for no other reasons than to be nice and help each other out.

Glad it worked out for you; don't be a stranger!

Yup, I put my bike back on the road after a 3-year layoff.

There were some minor issues at first, including stalling and check engine light coming on. Searching through this forum found the simple solutions to all of them. 30 minutes of work and maybe $5 in supplies and all is well.

My GTS is running perfectly, I feel I can trust it now to go anywhere, thanks to all the great information right here.

P.

...and I should add, I earned serious man-cred from the guys at the gas station!

They always kind of scoffed when I stopped there to gas up (or at least, that's how I felt...), but yesterday they were all nodding in approval after I got there predicting exactly what was wrong, showed them the cracked hose, and fixed the whole thing with 2 screwdrivers and a set of pliers! Can't buy that kind of reputation... Laughing emoticon

Thanks Judy. A move out of state, new job and all sort of family fun can do that to you...

I just ordered the main fuel line with filter from Scooterwest - that, and a new front shock are next. I plan to do the shock with a spork and two toothpicks!

Small world, I live a few miles from there - Cherry Hill (Woodcrest area), and work in Camden (probably the only Vespa circulating within the city limits!).

I was in Bucks county just a few weeks back, for the Shakespeare festival at DeSales. Looks like great riding country!
