Trying to get my wife's lx50 back in the road and having some trouble. I changed the spark plug, new gas, new battery, new vacuum line as the old one was broken but still no luck. Any ideas of what to look at? The electric start just goes and goes, no sign of the engine trying. Is the line coming off the bottom of the carb that has the silver sleeve holding it in place supposed to be a run off or is it not connected to something. Looks odd to just not be connected To something.

Thanks for the advice.

Is the engine actually turning over? If not its probably a sticky bendix gear not engaging (between starter and crank).

Update: tried starting it some more via the push button and had a few times where it wanted to try and start but didn't budge even with it getting some throttle. Same thing with kick starting it.

At first it wasn't trying to turn over. Just did it again and it tried a few times but that was very brief. I did see a post regarding the Bendix that had a video. Was thinking that could be it. I think I might load it up in the truck tomorrow and take it to the local versa place to have them take a look.

How long had it sat before you started working on it? Have you confirmed the carb is clean? Have you confirmed you got spark?

2 years. New spark plug was added the other day so I'm assuming there is spark but haven't seen it physically. No haven't cleaned the carb. I'm guessing it's worth a shot. Helps on my '71.

Was able to get it started this morning but it was pretty weak and died shortly there after. Guessing it's a spark or fuel issue. I dropped it off at the shop this morning as I just don't have time at the moment to continue dedicating a few hours a day to it. Bummer hate not being able to fix it for my wife.

I will update when I find out the root cause.
Thanks for the thoughts.

After two years of non-use it's almost certain the carb is gummed up.

picked up the scoot the other day. Yes you were correct the carb was gummed up but the vacuum was also cracked and the regulator was bad. $284 for the parts, oil change, labor etc and my wife is happy again.

Did you swap out the fuel lines? I've done mine twice in 8yrs. I saw on here where they crack. We were doing a good cleaning of my carb so i decided to swap them out. Wasn't having any problems. This is what happened when we took them out ( see pic). I just had them go again. Lucky i have free towing thru my AMA affiliation. Two hours later after being towed i was homeward bound and it was a $25 fix. Here's a pic of the first ones You'll need some clamps since the originals are a one time use. SW has Tygon tubing which is supposed to last longer. Sadly it's still in my shed since i didn't have it on me. Good luck
