Are you certain that it is actually low? I have never had to add any coolant to mine. And while I do not know where your coolant reservoir is, mine is on the dashboard underneath a small cover.

If you do have to add coolan- there has to be a reason. Either it boiled out- or you may have a leak. Also how old is the scooter and coolant?.

Hi Maksor where is the bleed nipple? and how do I test it?
The scot is less than 2 years old and only done 3500 miles on the clock.
Hi FentonFred, don't know where my reservoir is.

"Boiling out" would be the result of a leak, no?

Boiling out could be a result of a stuck/bad thermostat, or the cap could be defective. Get the scooter up to temp, then put a piece of cardboard under to see if any leaks. If you have access to an IR non-contact thermometer check the temp at the radiator, the cyl head where the coolant hoses connect. You are looking for 195-210deg. F. The fan should come on at approx 190-195deg. F. Anything higher than 220 deg. F , I would look for "why". It would be running that hot. ( restricted air flow@radiator), possible poor flow @ water pump, stuck thermostat, other issues. DO NOT open the rad cap when hot- you could get severely burned!!!. You can buy a non-contact Infra-red therometer from Harbor Freight for $ 20-30.

today I put about 3 cups of a 50% to 50% mix of deionised water with antifreeze in the expansion chamber which is located to the left of the speedometer under a small flap. Also the colour of residue inside the cap and mouth of the chamber is orange / red. looks like I have a big problem, unless that the colour of the original mix. I will have to speak to the shop where I bought the trike.

My coolant is also a pinky colour.

Different types of anti freeze have different colours. The instructions on the bottle I have say that different types should not be mixed.

+ 1 on not mixing coolant. There are too may variations of additives. A Qt from a Vespa shop should not be much more than $8.00 Just be sure it is/says recommended for Vespa,Piaggio. Your yr model etc. If possible use a sringe with a small piece of hose to evtract some of the coolant from the radiator (cold only-don't get burned). Take it to a couple of M/C dealers for opinion. If it looks like rusty water-not good. And remember if you have a total refill use only the correct stuff for Vespa/Piaggio. If it comes concentrated-dilute ONLY with distilled water (50 cents/gal @ Wal-mart) mix 50/50.
