Getting older requires more light riding at night. Has anyone here changed their bulbs to a different one or type that may throw a better configured beam. Or just more light? I refer to using the stock wiring/plug. I don' t want to melt any wiring in the process. OR- is the OEM as good as it gets?.

The light is much whiter, helping penetrate through fog and rain much better than standard bulbs. The beam also projects further and wider. Not cheap but well worth it to me. I have had them in for over two years now without them burning out constantly like Silverstar bulbs. |

I am using Osram Extreme something or other with 4200k temp. have not had a chance to ride at night with them, but looking at the headlight, it is much brighter and whiter.
What a PITA to change though. |

There has been a recent 5GEN LED from Cree that has made it possible to use in the restricted spaces that are present in the MP3s. By using 4 flat braided copper bands for heat dissipation then coated to prevent oxidation. Previous units used cooling fans built it to their base. They are cooler running at 20 watts as oppose to 35 watts and each LED produce 2500 lumen x2 = 5000 lumen. Whereas a pair of HIDs will be between 6400/6800 lumen. So yes they are less bright overall.
The advantage of the LED is it was made for reflector headlamps so there is no glare that is common with HID. HIDs are best suited for projection lens. http://www.ebay.com/itm/5th-Gen-H8-H9-H11-Super-White-CREE-L2-LED-Headlights-20W-2500LM-High-Low-Beam-/381341134048?hash=item58c9b3ece0&vxp=mtr |

I use 3200 Lumen LED bulbs in my 250cc and they are awesome, even more so because I did the Hi/Low mod where both are on when Hi beam is selected.
I use the same LEDs in my truck as well (different socket). I live out in the sticks so its very important to have good lighting with all the wildlife crossing the roads. |

I use Cyclops h4 led in my DR650 and the light output is unreal. Led is here now and is the future. hid is now old tech & traditional bulbs dinosaur tech. |
