Ok, how many of you often drive your dearly beloved scoot on the rain?

well, I do a lot here in Berlin

now, since I have the windscreen (tall version), this makes me some problems when there is not enough speed for air to remove the raindrops

so, initially I used some very clever small and simple solution that I found at www.louis.de (see first 2 attachments). they are small rubber wiper-rings that one puts on the gloves and use as wipers for the helmet. quite neat solution, but if you have full screen as I have, is bit not so practical.

then I was visiting one of the boat shops and saw something perfect: fully manual, very simple boat wiper!

so, invested 27 EUR for it (you can get them in the boat's equipment shops or via eBay), drilled the 12 mm dia hole in the windscreen, bit of tweaking and in cca 15 minutes job was done (see the rest of the photos)

even today I got some rain here in Berlin and had opportunity to test it: it works, but needs some more tuning. the windscreen has heavy double curvature surface (stabilisation for vibrating and aerodynamical reasons) so this stiff flat wiper blade does not cover full surface correctly

will try to find some Bosch Aero Twin (or similar) blade and try to install it
this is how glove rubber ring wipers look like
this is how glove rubber ring wipers look like
this is how you use those gloves wipers
this is how you use those gloves wipers
you see almost nothing
you see almost nothing
just when looking closer one starts noticing
just when looking closer one starts noticing
yup, its there
yup, its there
needs more tuning, but works
needs more tuning, but works

Well here's another source:

https://www.modeltford.com/item/7801L.aspx

Like they say not much new under the sun!

PS: I know nothing of this outfit, just came up when I did a Google search for Model T wipers, as I knew they were an option back in the day. No I'm not quite that old!

If you are into boating then you will know about rotating clear view screens?

Next project? To adapt one of these to fulfill the same function?

Its for Karting. Not cheap. Just right click on the image and copy the URL.

Here's an ebay link for a cheaper one.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sparco-Universal-Helmet-Go-Kart-Karting-Turbo-Visor-For-Wet-Weather-Karting-/361041132128?hash=item540fba7a60

Called a Sparco Universal Karting Helmet Visor

There is also a Japanese site somewhere.

Not a new idea!

ok, saga continues
as mentioned before, there were 2 problems still to be sorted out

1st was too rigid wiper blade, which was not able to follow the double curvature of the wind shield. the solution to that was to install something like Bosch AeroBlade wiper, but original wiper arm was not compliant with the adapters that came with the blade (in my case, I bought 300 mm long blade)

so, my friend GiGi helped me to fix the adapter to the arm. first we used the smallest rivet that he got to connect. after that he showed me one great trick to fulfil the missing plastic material: you use sodium bicarbonate (you need the pure one) and the seconds super glue! this two components react and create plastic material, which could be shaped or milled later with Dremel! brilliant.

2nd problem was basic construction of the wiper mechanism that I bought. in the lever side (which you operate with your hand) the shaft was having teeth, so there was no slip between lever and the shaft. But on the other side, blade arm was kinda clamped to the shaft, causing arm to slip if you operate the system under dry conditions. when I say clamp, imaging how contact looks on your car battery. So, together with GiGi (the master) we made extra small hole through clamp and shaft and inserted extra thin pin through it

PS almost forgot small additional details: 2 off end position pegs (bought very decent, minimalist handle bars for the kitchen). almost not noticeable Wha? emoticon

impressions
since the rainy season has started in Berlin, had enough time to test The Device

can report that works great, especially against the mist created by vehicles driving in front of you (big rain drips were not the issue before that much)

the only thing that I need to improve is the upper end of the flexi viper, which manages to scratch the windshield a bit
