The main point for me is that a tyre sealant (a good one like Ultraseal or PunctureSafe, not Slime) gives a biker a huge safety boost. It lives in the tyres permanently preventing almost all punctures from killing you. For the less experienced rider, the worst type of puncture is a 'slow' puncture in the rear wheel. You often won't know you have it until its too late. You go into a fast turn and suddenly the back end just starts to go. If you are lucky you may hold it upright. If not you can end up mincemeat on the highway. It happened to me 40 years ago when I had this very situation doing 60mph into a right hander and the rear broke loose. I had been cruising on the highway for miles not knowing the rear tyre was slowly deflating little by little. I just couldn't feel it happening and most folks wont' either. By the time I took the bend I'd lost over half of the pressure in the tyre and the back end just slide from under me as I entered the bend. I was lucky, I missed all the oncoming vehicles and ended up in the bushes. It could have been very different. So far I've never had PunctureSafe not seal a puncture. And in every case except the last one on my Burgman, it's sealed it permanently. The great thing about PunctureSafe or Ultraseal is that if you decide to have the tyre repaired with a plug then that's not a problem as the sealant washes out of the carcass and will allow a professional repair if you want that. But why? PunctureSafe is better and safer and there's no speed restriction.
