There does seem to be a consciensus here in the States that if you are going to go anywhere you have to get on the interstate where all the traffic is pushing 78-80 mph.
Luckily, outside the US, there are a myriad of roads that are not motorways/freeways/autobahns. They are the roads that existed before. Long before in most cases. These tend not to ever have existed in the US, hence my previous comments about the sparsity of 'good roads' for riding.

I can ride on Interstate Rt. 17/ I 86 to get to Binghamton or Old Route 17, built before the interstate. Many roads in upstate NY are curvy, hilly and scenic. I've seen many articles about riding Route 66 out there. Places that have been around since the 1600's in this Country have some old Goat Trails that have been paved over. The newer states that have only existed since the 1800s are the ones with miles of dead straight Autobahns.

Well, I enjoy a nice cruise on the highways as much as the next Vespa fan. But considering my past bikes and experiences with them--and the creedo I drive by:

"Its more fun to drive something cheap fast than something expensive slow"

is there any wonder I run WOT???

I'm also from NY, the state not the City, and it always gets me the impression people not from here have of what it is like. Sure there are areas with large tracts of houses but there are many more that will make you glad your ride is running good and you don't have to try to walk for help! I own five acres of land and 98% of the time you can not tell which way the nearest house is from anywhere on the property! Like kz1000ST says I can go to just about anyplace in this state without once running on an Interstate.

For that matter I have rode from here to West Virginia or to the cost of Maine with little or no time on four lanes or Interstates.

Just go to this Google map and you can scroll north till you are in Canada and not see any Interstates
