Hello,
I hope you will help me! My et2 sometimes starts to coughing (I don't know the exact word, but it lost the power and khrkkk-krhkk-krhkkk, like drinking straws, when the bottle is empty.) It happened randomly, but more and more often. Today I've changed the spark plug (it was only 3 months old) and the problem disappeared. What can I do? Is the mixture wrong? And how could I repair it?
Sorry about my English! I wrestle with it, and always lost...

The gap on the plug looks awfully narrow. What kind of fuel are you running? That's a strange looking carbon. If you guys are still running leaded fuel try different octanes.

It kind of looks like a too cold of a plug....Look in your owners manual and see which plug is right...

The light brown deposits in the insulator and electrodes at three months result from either too much oil in the combustion chamber, It also points toas mentioned, possibly bad fuel. The coughing that you mentioned may be a result of both bad fuel and too much oil. The gap must beat 0.8 mm. It does not look too bad right now but the deposits will continue, Make sure when you adjust the gap bend the eleƧtrode by the sides and not the top.

Thank you for your ideas!
Today I left it in a service, they'll examine it tomorrow. I will write the result.

Here is a panel of spark plug images that you can use as a comparison for your problem.

This plug is from at ET2, which has a two stroke engine, correct? If so. it looks normal to me for an engine that has seen a lot of in-town service. Are you using oil designed specifically for two stroke air cooled engines?

Cheers and good luck,
Bob

I think you are right. As far as I see the problem is not with the spark plug (instead of my title...).
I use full synthetic Motul Scooter Expert oil.

The problem disappeared when you changed the plug. Either the plug has too much carbon built up on the electrodes (even if the gap is not bridged), or the plug is bad.

I have had three bad plugs over the years. In each case it was a resistor plug in an air cooled engine. The resistance went to a very high value when the engine heated up. I no longer use resistor plugs in air cooled engines when I can help it. The engines were in a VW car, a chain saw, and a two stroke lawn mower (a new plug).

Cheers and good luck,
Bob

My 2-strokes (many years ago) all needed regular plug changes, and it was always wise to carry a spare. The plugs were often fine when cleaned up, so it didn't mean buying new ones all the time.

Indeed, but I changed it at early summer. This is too short interval for a s.plug. I cross my fingers there isn't big problem. I haven't got too much money for it. My mechanic is on holiday, then I took my bike to an other service. Once they were very helpful with me, when I had a little problem. They seem very fair to me. I'll be more clever tomorrow.

Spark plug problem SOLVED
They've called me from the service. The oil deposited the spark plug. Before Motul I tried the Ipon full synth, and maybe this caused the problem. They cleaned the plug and took another oil.
Thanks for everyone!

High end fully synthetic oils are not always the best choice for two stroke engines that are used in normal (around town) service. These oils tend not to burn in the cylinder at low speeds, which seems like a good thing, but by not burning they tend to gum up both the spark plug and the catalytic converter, as at least one European manufacturer discovered.

I have not run across this where a less expensive synthetic oil is made from hydrocracked petroleum. Any non-boutique JASO FD synthetic oil should be perfect.

Again, if you insist on using a racing oil, be sure that it contains anti-corrosive additives. Not all do.

Cheers and good luck,
Bob

Volume 2.
Hello, I am here again.
The oil has changed, but the problem came back half day later. I took back the bike to the service, and it seems the CDI was wrong (it was onle three months old Taiwanian TEC). They changed it an Italian RMS and I hope I will be luckier this time. I know, I would buy a Piaggio CDI, but that is too expensive for me. Maybe later.
