Ok, my scoot won't start. I turn it on and the lights come up good and fine. I pull the brake (mine usually start with either one) and push the starter then I hear a loud click towards the rear and the entire thing dies. Doesn't turn over, panel lights all die.

I took the battery to a shop to get tested - all is well.
I figured out how to get to the hidden fuse (thanks to the visuals in one of our posts on here) - and all is well.

I'm trying to figure out how to get to the wire, I believe it's called the brake light wire??? A few days before she died on me, I had noticed that my right brake handle wasn't activating the brake lights consistently. So, I'm thinking that I need to get back in there and tighten it up.

The last time this was done, my boyfriend did it for me. Now, I need to do it on my own, but I have no clue how and the instructions on our forum don't show any images. Can anyone point me to some images of how to do this? I'm not very savvy in all the lingo, but I'll learn. I'm just very visual. Please help???

which brake lever do you use when starting?
try the other one.

do either one when pulled light up the brake lights?

its probably your switch on the brake lever handle.

It normally starts with either one. I've tried both and it won't start. I just figured I should go tighten that wire while I'm troubleshooting things, since I know it was causing an issue any way.

Both levers light up my brake lights. Just the right one doesn't come on until I pull it all the way in.

I don't know how to get to it though and I know we have a ton of posts about it, but I need pictures or serious break down.

having to pull the lever all the way in to activate the light means your switch is going bad. easy to replace it just unplugs from the wire and unscrews from the brake housing perch.

You state the brake switches work, and the battery is tested good (what CCA did they say it passed at?), but there's a 'click' from the rear and the lights die.

*If* you really trust the battery is good and fully charged, then I'd be checking the ground connections from the battery negative both to the main frame and to the engine/starter.

Something in the circuit is going high resistance from heating up when high current is passed through it - a duff ground connection is the usual culprit, most often on the battery itself, but also not uncommon on the other two ends.

I actually said that I'm trying to check the brake switch on the right. I'll check those ground connections, too. Thanks!

What is a CCA? They told me it had 10 amps or volts, I'm not sure the word they used.

Now that I think of it, I had disconnected the battery (didn't ride for a week) and when I reconnected it, it wouldn't start. Battery was fully charged then, too. Tested it on a home voltimiter. It might very well be the connectors.

YOU GUYS, I DID IT!!!!!

I cleaned a SMALL amount of corrosion from the battery's positive post and connectors and that seemed to do the trick. Started right up!

Thanks, JimC!

Damn, I feel good.
