So i grew up getting to know music in the 60's and 70's. Great times but bad hair and clothes. I like all types of music but not so much classical or country. I had just come from Holland where i spent a month with friends in Rotterdam. Had 4 days free anywhere on my way back home so i decided to hit Istanbul Turkey for a few days. I had a Hostel i stayed at just down the street from the covered Bazaar. I was sitting in a restaurant having some Turkish food and was talking to a few people that were American Jews working on a Kibbutz in Israel. They were heading to Greece to see Yanni (yeah i like his music 8) over at the Theater Herod's at the Acropolis. They had a extra ticket and gave it to me. So i decided to do it. What a show. Just being at the Acropolis is awesome but closing your eyes and just being there and hearing his music resonate off the walls of the open air theater built so long ago is something that i will not replicate in this lifetime. He's Greek and your transported back in time. The second was a show that Pink Floyd did a SPAC in Saratoga NY back in the early 70's. What a light show. Their light show with pyrotechnics was awesome. I believe it was their Tour for the Off The Wall album. We had lawn seats . The area is beautiful anyway but with the music and light show it was a fun evening. What's your fav concerts/concerts?

"Shutdown" show at CBGB, 1987, featuring Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, and Side By Side. You had to be pretty wild to get banned from CBGB.

Funny, I'm listening to Steve Miller right now....
Best concerts? I hate to admit it, but it was Garth Brooks in 1997. But I have seen some really awesome ones, including Robert Cray, Tony Bennett (just 10 years ago), and Bruce Springsteen. |

Ooooh, way too many excellent gigs to pick just one.
Recently, watching The Levellers on Fistral Beach in Newquay as the sun set behind me. Linkin Park at Milton Keynes Bowl, along with Jay Z doing Encore/Numb. Iron Maiden at Hammersmith Apollo playing songs from their early years - just perfect.. Terrorvision at JBs in Dudley when we all bounced so hard the floor gave way. Guns N Roses at Wembley Stadium - biggest band on the planet at the time. Metallica at the NEC in about 1989 - my first proper metal gig. |

Beatles in Jacksonville, Fl. Sometime in the mid 60's. Just remember the screaming girls and really bad weather. Lived a sheltered life. That was my first and only concert I've attended. Back then and even now I guess I'm too much of a nerd.

Compared to Flordian I feel like a man of the world.
OTOH, the total list is so short, might as well name what I can remember. Hard to really list favorites anyway.... Way back (early '70's): Linda Rondstadt. IIRC she was on her way up. Explains why she bothered to come to Green Bay. Bit later, John Prine. 3 hour drive in a snowstorm. Worth all the white knuckles. I'm betting he reciprocated with a similar drive from Chicago. Even up. Late '70's: Muddy Waters, played to a small group at a college in suburban Chicago. Pretty intimate setting. About the same time, Grateful Dead. Couple years back, Los Lobos. Great to see them play, even better getting backstage. Great guys. Felt like a groupie there... |

Late 1970, Led Zeppelin at the Oakland Arena. Robert Plant in his prime singing "Immigrant Song" is something I will never forget.
Also 1970, Jefferson Airplane at the Fillmore. I had a crush on Grace Slick - she was beautiful then and oh what a powerful voice. Early 70's, Neil Young at Winterland - solo with an acoustic guitar. Wonderful renditions of "Old Man" and "Needle and the Damage Done". Many Grateful Dead shows at Winterland. This was before there were Deadheads Yes, I'm an old hippie. |

Probably best concert overall: Eurythmics '86, with UB40 opening.
Most memorable: Rolling Stones 1982, the same day Italy won the Spain World Cup, and Mick Jagger correctly predicted the score! Honorable mentions: Paolo Conte some time in the mid-80; Lou Reed 1983 (purely on charisma). Most recent: Gin Wigmore last Saturday - that was fun! |

That was my first and only concert I've attended. Back then and even now I guess I'm too much of a nerd. Bob I don't go to many concerts either, none lately, but I did go to a concert in 1983 that was interesting. I had a date with a beautiful young lady, Jenny. The date was to attend an American Institute of Architects awards dinner. We had to dress up a little for that. I wore a horrible jacket, pink I believe, pants and off white shoes. She looked great. I was aware that U2 was playing at the 2000 seat Jacksonville Civic Auditorium and had mentioned to her that it would be fun to attend if we had time. I had been listening to "October" and liked every song. We had no tickets. So we left the gathering and headed downtown to the show. I pulled my new Honda Prelude up to the driveway in front of the entrance and we got out and went up to the box office. The attendant said that they were no longer selling tickets. I, in a disappointed voice, said, "well, what are we supposed to do" He said, "just walk in" So we went in and saw a large crowd standing in front of the band and decided to join them. We were standing there when Bono noticed my strange garb and reached down to shake my hand. Of course, he was mobbed and I didn't get the handshake, but it was nice to be noticed. We stayed for a more few songs, walked out, into the car and headed for home. I have seen more memorable music performances, Bonnie Raitt outside at a free concert at Metropolitan Park was fantastic. Her voice that day was ethereal. As for CBGB, my brother had a band, the Beggarweeds. They played there in the early 1990's. |

So many to choose from.
October 11, 1990, Nirvana, Dave Grohl's first show. The difference his powerhouse drumming made compared to Channing's modest skills was immediately apparent. April, 20, 2000, Patti Smith. The second time I saw her. She was on fire that night! August, 2, 2015, Tinariwen melting the faces off the crowd at Pickathon's Woods Stage with their Malian desert blues. Ask me tomorrow and the list will be different. |

In second place, I'd put the Faith No More/Guns & Roses/Metallica triple-concert at Foxboro Stadium in 1993(?). It was the first show Axl did after getting his voice back.
Norah Jones at Great Woods was also fantastic... ...but my favorite by far was Joe Satriani at the House of Blues, Las Vegas. For those who don't know Satriani, please give a listen to the 'LIVE in San Francisco' versions of "Until We Say Goodbye" & "Always With Me, Always With You". To a much lesser degree of impressiveness, I've also seen... ZZ Top at the Providence Civic Center, Sammy Hagar in Kansas City, Steve Miller at Great Woods (where he's played like 900 times), Tesla at Lupo's in Providence (in 2000?, his voice was unbelievably good), Cinderella opened for Poison (I think) at Great Woods, ummm...I'm forgetting a few. |

In the mid '60s, geez that's 50 years ago, I went to the Coliseum at NC State U. in Raleigh to see my idol Joan Baez. This was a huge venue with tens of thousands there. The show opened with a whiny little guitar player/singer nobody knew. People were talking, walking around, shouting for Joan, booing. It went on and on. The opener was Bob Dylan. I still don't like him.
I was with my guitar teacher. She was the opener for Peter, Paul, and Mary occasionally. It turned into a good night. |

My uncle took me to see Pantera five times in Kansas City. Those are the best for nostalgia sake. They also put on a great show.
Besides that, seeing Bad Company with my dad at a hot air balloon festival was pretty rad. |
