Awesome! What 6 days can make of a difference.
2006 8400 $1600
2006 650 $1700
Winner in every sense.
In the Vespa World, there's an old saying that goes "when you got they money, there's no wasp available, when there's a wasp available, no mulla."
Patience is a virtue.
Congrats

Every scooter journey begin with a kick start.

Why not get a 150cc? You still have to have a MC licence in DC for a 50cc and you are limited to the city with it.

Hmm, according to the city I don't need an MC endorsement if it's 50cc or under AND as long as I don't operate it above 30... So technically no...

Either way, I'm totally satisfied with the performance... Driven about 300 miles in the city so far and haven't had any issues keeping up... even zooming through rock creek parkway I'm able to stay with or pass traffic.

I'll take the test eventually though, just wanted to start off small... Maybe I'll upgrade to a new GTS in a couple of years if I decide I'm a Vespa man for life

Don't take the test... take the MSF basic rider's course. Even if it doesn't automatically give you a waiver for a DC M class license, the skills you learn in the class (usually taught on small manual shift motorcycles) will make you a more skilled scooterist. Whether or not you go to a larger scooter in the future, the skills you learn in the course are invaluable.

Yeah I think I'll do that! DC requires a 3-day course like the MSF one before you can take the written test.

BUMSTEAD awesome. Clown emoticon Clown emoticon Do you know what the sell has done as far as maintenance? Low mileage isn't always a good thing. When i had 3 scoots my LX gave me problems. They preform better when ridden a lot. Check the fuel line, belt and tires. If none of those rubber bits have been changed i'd replace them. Other may disagree but when your life depends on those parts i find it's better to err on the side of caution. I have had to change my fuel lines twice. Every 4yrs. The last 4yrs i didn't and i got stranded. Have fun with your new ride. Your in for a whole lotta fun and smiles. 8)

Thanks!!

Seller had a service/oil change done 75 miles ago, and another one done right before I picked it up... Tires look to be in great shape, but I'm not sure about all the bits inside... It has been taking a little longer than I'd like to cold start though. I'm going to take it to my local dealer in the next week or so for a once-over... Maybe get those fuel lines replaced as you said.

Tires, belts and hoses can look good but if none has been changed their an accident waiting to happen IMHO. You can't always see the cracks. Here's what mine (fuel lines) did when we took them out. They looked like this. Crumbled in my hands. Also ,while i could put you back together (RN) i'm not mechanically inclined Nerd emoticon So it's better for me to have things changed before they go. BTW i have over 35,000 miles on my '07 LX 150. Have fun and be careful out there.

Well, the rule says if the scooter itself can't go past 30mph, not whether you drive it or not.

That being said, from my own experience and what I've been told by most people, DC cops and parking attendants rarely tend to check up on Vespas and other scooters. In fact, one came up to me the other day to ask me about mine - turns out he wanted to buy one himself!

It never hurts to get the MC endorsement though, in case you might want to upgrade.

The law that I read said that it cannot be "operated" above 30 if it meets all the other conditions of a non-traditional motor vehicle... But that's how I interpret it anyway haha

I had just fun the weekend I did it. Highly recommended, besides increasing my odds of surviving substantially.

Forgot to say you should have the valves checked. Hard starting is one of the symptoms. I'm getting mine done since it's been a while. Order some Tygon tubing from MortorSport in SD. Lasts longer than regular and isn't expensive. Being stranded isn't fun. Thankfully i had towing in July when my second set of lines went.
