Hi community,

Just mentioned in the previous post, i manage to ride my Vespa GTS300 ie white on the busy Singapore road for the past week. My previous ride was a sports tourer, Yamaha FZ16.. Generally the vespa ride was good however i am facing some questions and help perhaps the community can advice.

1) My pillion complaints that her foot is not long enough for the foot-pegs!

This seems like a common issue as my wife, due to her shorter legs, couldn't reach for the original foot pegs on the GTS therefore her feet is left dangling on the side. Definitely not as comfortable as her previous experience on motorbikes. Understand the SIP is selling the adapter.. However it is really pricey when it is converted into SGD....

2) The vespa seems to be very heated up and the engine was huffing and puffing!

After a ride for 45 mins due to heavy jams in the rush hours, when i reach home, the vespa generally is very hot.. Hot air seems to release from the side and i am wondering if this is normal. Also just before i reach my carpark, the engine suddenly huffing and puffing which i was shocked as it was my first ride.

3) Vibrating handlebar

I personally Vespa vibrates quite badly.. Especially when the vehicle is stationary at the red traffic light. Any help?

4) Running-in

May i know the guide in the FAQ for GTS is in miles or KM?

Hope i can have some experts views to enhance my riding experience..

THanks everyone!

Hi mahaya,

Not expert by any means, but have GTS if that helps.

I assume you're asking about the maintenance schedule in the wiki? Good question, it's not clear to me either. My guess is miles, but I don't have any other reference here.

The vibration sounds excessive. I can feel the engine when stationery, but no effect on the bars. I checked your temperatures there, and it doesn't seem like they're high enough to cause any overheating issue, even with a pillion.

As for running in, seems the directions are somewhat vague. Generally, my take is, for the first 1K km, avoid excessive speeds (e.g. over 100 k/hr), and vary your speed frequently during the period. If you're not riding for extended periods on a large highway, you probably have it covered.

That's my take. Someone else is likely to come along soon. I bow to their superior knowledge. Eyelashes emoticon

Hi and welcome to a fellow GTS300 owner!

1. It's the only option as far as I know. I'm about to bite the bullet on them myself to make my wife more comfy on the back

3. Mine vibrates the same (3 years old, 15k kms), I assumed it was normal

You feel the GTS vibrate more at idle if you keep the rear brake engaged.

No idea what engine huffing and puffing means. Could you maybe restate ?
As for heat escaping from the side; that's to be expected. That's where the engine is. The engine temps are going to be around 200 degrees F which is normal.

Welcome to MV!

Here are reflections of my experience on my 2015 GTS300 Super:

1. Passenger footpeg extenders are available from a number of sources. In the US, ScooterWest has these available. These mounts move the passenger pegs rearward, which might be a better fit for your pillion partner.

http://www.scooterwest.com/items/?_pageCCS=t#page=/item_details/PAIR-of-Passenger-Footpegs-Extenders-GT-GTS-Super-GTV/10307

2. Stop and go traffic in hot climates does generate a lot of heat. Not sure about the "huffing and puffing," but on an August day in Atlanta, in traffic, my cooling fan runs nearly all the time. It does blow a lot of hot air out of the side vents in the cowling.

3. My GTS vibrates some at a full stop. If you're accustomed to a Yamaha FZ, it's a different kind of vibration; on the Yamaha, it's a high frequency, low amplitude shake. On the Vespa, it's a low frequency, high amplitude vibration. I don't think it's alarming...just different.

4. I think the guides in the Wiki are in miles, not km.

Hope that helps, and I hope you enjoy that GTS!!
