Hiya gang. Pretty excited to head down to the dealer after work today and check out the new Sprint 50. I've always been attracted to the romance and culture of Vespa, and at 42 years old, I'm finally getting one. I'm a bit nervous though, as I live in a heavy tourist town and we're heading into season with a bunch of terrible drivers. Ideally I'd like to get the yellow for visibility-sake. The dealer only has white and blue in stock and I'm told it would be an additional $150 to have the yellow shipped. Is that normal? Regardless, I'm not sure I've got the patience to wait.
I'm also a bit paranoid about theft. I've done some searches through the threads for security/locks but haven't found anything decisive. I'll be riding this vehicle every day to work where I'll be required to park it outside in a large populated parking lot. Not sure I'll be able to park next to a light pole every time (but I probably will). Any suggestions for locks?
I'm sure this will be the first of many posts by me, as I'm super stoked to get involved.

I can't tell you if the dealer costs are normal, but where are you located so other folks can give you some accurate info on prices and parking?

Welcome to MV!

If you want to be more visible to drivers I would suggest a white helmet and a hi-viz jacket. Most importantly be vigilant when riding and keep your head on a swivel.

I have a big chain and lock from Onguard, that I use to lock up the bike when traveling. If someone really wants your bikes they will find a way to get it but the lock provides a deterrent and maybe they will look elsewhere if it takes too much time to get through your security.

Have fun, good luck with the purchase and post some pictures when you get your new scoot.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the color for safety's sake. You can always wear a high visibility jacket and helmet. Get the color you want.

Ride safe & have fun!

I bought a disk brake lock & alarm system and OnGuard U-Lock with 4ft cable.
Here's my yellow Lx 50.

Welcome "You Look Marvelous"
I really like the body design on the Sprint.
Good advice from these guys. Buy a HI-Viz
mesh vest and everyone will see you. Stay
away from aggressive riding until you get the
feel of the road.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty damn excited! I can't remember ever being this eager to commute to work. Makes me wish I lived more than 3 miles away. Have no idea how I'm gonna get to sleep tonight. Mods and chrome on the brain!

Of note: I got that black helmet in the pic (obviously)...probably get a brighter one soon. I also got a Bully cable lock 20mm, 6'. Researching insurance next.

Also of note: wife REALLY liked the little Vino that was in the showroom (she's small, and would look wicked cute on the thing). Who knows? It's our anniversary tomorrow

Nice White Scoot!
You will begin to notice, a lot of people will look at your Scoot (first) and look at you. Then you will see in their eyes the appreciation.
You will see older people relating to the experience when they see you and younger people dreaming to ride one.

The experience of bitten by a Wasp!

Dunno about the chrome, but as a new Vespa owner myself, I get the excitement bit. Major-league congrats!

I also ended up with a black helmet (matte black at that), but I agree with others that a high-viz vest will do wonders for dealing with those less-with-it members of the four-wheeled set.

Okay, understand this: your wife is going to get scooter-ized. May likely be the Vino, but watch out if she starts eying other Vespas. "The couple that scoots together...", and all that.

As always, ride safe, and have a ball.

Congratulations on your new scoot! It's a beauty. Incidently, I had a Vino once and it is a great choice for your wife. Also, congratulations on your anniversary!

Congratulations and welcome. You are in for the time of your life. If your better half does decide to get one, even better. I ride with my wife all the time. It's a really neat way to spend time together.
