Hi All

One of my Vespas is a GT200 2006 and took it up to Michigan in my auto trailer to use when I was up there. I used it fine end of June (had to replace battery) Back there in Sept and took it out of trailer and it cranks but will not start.

Have put fresh fuel in it and tried starting fluid (sometimes starts to catch) but then does not. Almost seems like not getting fuel. Any thoughts, suggestions to try. I am not mechanical but a friend of mine is with Harley's and said he would take a look at it. Barring that will take to a dealer but hoping there might be something simple that we could fix. Seems there is a vacuum line to draw fuel but not sure if there is a pump or what.

Thanks in advance.

I would check on the simple stuff first, spark, fuel, compression.....
There is a problem with the spark plug cap's, if you have no spark.....

If you have spark and compression, then it is fuel that is lacking. is the spark plug wet when you are pulled it out? Maybe unhook the vacuum and fuel lines, put some vacuum on the line and see if you are getting fuel flow.

GT200 2006 will crank but no start
Got into it a bit more this weekend and found that the main fuse by the battery was blown. Also fuel pump is pumping and we have good spark as mentioned before.

When tried to start now it almost seemed to catch but then went back to just cranking and no start.

Any other ideas what to check if any or take it to the dealer?

Thanks.

Have you checked the injectors themselves? Could be all gummed up after sitting for a while.

Be careful, they're very delicate.

The GT 200 has a carb, not fuel injection. Have you tried a new plug?

Bob the plug was giving good spark so did not. Yes know it has a carb not sure if that could be the problem.

GT200 2006 will crank but no start (Continuted) Need advice
Folks needs help still. The saga continues. I finally got it over to a dealer in January and they too thought it was the carb/float may have been stuck. Well they claim that is not the case. They had me bring over the master key and that still did not work, they they thought the antenna for the signal was bad and that was not it. They they said the compression was only 60 (but the Scooter ran fine last time I used it) so I don't think that was it. They they just told me they think it might be the timing belt or chain and the engine has to come out. (Does it?) Any ideas out there what the problem could be. Spark is good as I mentioned before, fuel flow is good, fuses are good these are all things that I checked with a friend of mine that is a Harley expert.

Do you have the mechanical aptitude to verify the cylinder compression . . and insert a probe into the spark plug hole to verify piston is at top-dead-center when timing indication is aligned?

The problem is the scooter is at the dealer. We did check the compression before hand though and seemed to be fine. It did start to catch when either was sprayed in the air cleaner at first but would not stay running.

Nothing will run with 60 lbs of comression. If there's spark and it won't start and run on ether, it's usually a compression issue. If a valve adjustment won't bring it back to life, it just might be that the rings are bad.
On the other hand, a bad spark plug can sometimes fail to ignite under compression, even if it's sparking like crazy out of the bike.

I have asked him to recheck the compression he thought he might have a bad gauge as we checked it and it was fine.

While this wouldn't cause a fuse to blow you should change out the lines (fuel and vacuum). They may look alright but will crumble when taken out. I've replaced mine twice on my LX. Once before it stranded me and once after. It will cause the bike not to start if their bad but again it wouldn't do anything to the fuses. Good luck
