Hi all,

I recently bought a Vespa Rally 200 from 1973 (VSE1T 0046xx & VES1M 0045xx) and I am trying to figure out in which country it was originally imported (I bought the scooter in Holland but it probably did not come from Holland).
From different sources, I collected information which might lead to a definitive answer but couldn't figure it out yet....Further specifications are:
* Speedo is in miles (and I think it is the original speedo, but cannot tell for sure)... this is my biggest questionmark since most of the other specs point to a non-US model
* Color is Arancio 907
* Autolube
* No battery and no key (wiring is matching with the w/out battery or key drawing on http://www.scooterhelp.com/electrics/pages/VSE1T.rally200e.htm)
* Kill button directly under the seat (next to the bag hook)
* No indicators or signs of them being on in the past (also not in the electrical harness)
* European style taillight (large plastic, black top, flush mounted to the rear frame)
* No inspection holes in the drum brakes (although, I am not 100% sure what they should look like but my Rally has no holes in the drum brakes at all)
* Old, European style fuel tap levers
* Holes drilled for a licence plate

Does anyone have ideas where my rally might come from based on the above, see strange specifications combinations or have ideas what other specifications to look for?

Many thanks in advance!!

regards, Jan Dirk

I asked a question about this topic last year and got some good responses. Can you take pictures of your scoot?

Here's a reply from user Seigiorni:

Apart from the headset the most obvious difference is the badges. The 1972 and 1973 Rally 200s had an uppercase RALLY 200 rear badge and the front legshield had a horizontally mounted 'Vespa' script badge. These were changed in late 1973 at VIN 10824. Pictures below.

for a single year, rallys had the kill switch/button under the seat. if the bike had a battery system, it got a keyswitch; no battery and it got a giant kill button.

Almost 3 years. It disappeared at VIN 18100, so 1972, 1973 and more than 6,400 (or roughly 63%) of the 1974 Rally production.

My 1973 Rally is a DC model and has a factory fitted kill button. I've never seen an evidence of a 'keyed' kill switch on anything but US/CDN/PR market Rally 200s. However, Piaggio had 38 different international market designations in the early-mid '70s, so never say never.

All Rally 200s had black fender crests. The TS had polished ones. All Rally 200s also had black fork springs and black plastic taillight covers (not body coloured as per previous models).

Other minor details: all non-US/CDN/PR Vespas have holes drilled for license plates. Also strengthening plate on cowls/frame for indicators is unique to US/CDN/PR markets.

If you want to read all the back and forth of the post this came from here you go.

Anyone have close up pics of a72/73 Nordic or Italian Rally?
