For the n00bs this is how it works. If you wish to participate send me a PM with your mailing address. Also indicate if you are willing to ship internationally. You will receive the address of another member. The member that you give to will not be the same as the one that gives to you and you will not know who that member is until your gift arrives. That's part of the fun. When you open your gift post a picture here. You can sign up by sending your address now.
The gift should, ideally be scooter related but any thoughtful gift will be fine. Last year I suggested a price range of $10-$20. Judging by the pictures sent in many went over. I'm not going to be a stickler about it just please don't go overboard. A handmade gift that costs little more than the postage would be great.
This is my second year organizing this after taking over from Scootchef. I learned a lot from last year. For the great majority of you it seemed to go smoothly but I had significant problems mostly because of clerical errors by me. I had announced a cut-off date, put all the names in a hat and drew to see who was paired with who. There were several mix-ups that were, mostly straightened up. There were also late joiners that complicated things.
I have a new plan this year. I will match up members in groups of three, as they come in. A will give to B. B will give to C and C will give to A. I think this should make things simpler and you will not know who your giver is. I do not plan to have a cutoff date. If you are an early adopter and send your address today there is a good chance you will know who your recipient is by the end of the day and you can start shopping. If you are a latey-loo and don't send your address until December 21st you will be matched with a similar procrastinator.
I will try to pair members from the same continent but that is not always possible. Most members are from the US. If I remember right there were only two from Australla, one from New Zealand and a handfull from Europe.
One problem that I anticipated last year but thankfully was almost nonexistent was deadbeats that did not send a gift. I think there was one. If you would like to offer to fill in in such a case it would be appreciated.
The giver, for the most part will be a surprise to the recipient but if you need size or gender information or you are, for instance thinking of sending alcohol and need to check first I will ask the recipient without saying who the giver is. If you have a specific gift for a certain member I will consider special requests. If you don't want to be paired with a particular member that will, of course be, discretely honored.
Would someone please lock the 2014 thread so people don't mistakenly post there?
Let's begin and remember to make it fun.
