OK, so it is called the 'Fuel Injection Warning Light'. It comes on when the engine starts and goes off in a couple seconds. What exactly does it warn of? I can't find a good explanation anywhere.

If any of the sensors give an out-of-gamut reading, it'll come on. The most common reason seen on MV is when it comes on at high revs - that's a sure sign of the regulator having failed and the battery beginning to cook. So always worth taking notice of it if it comes on.

Jim. When that happens, are there alternatives to just stopping and getting a tow?

If the bike's still running - personally I'd carry on to my destination and sort it out there. YMMV depending on how lucky you feel.

The show-stopper is the oil pressure light coming hard on.

Yep, it's seems to be the Voltage Regulator. It happened to me, ruined the battery too. Replaced and fixed, seems to happen way too much. The voltage goes up, can (will) blow out light bulbs too....... Nerd emoticon Crying or Very sad emoticon Nerd emoticon

Just to be clear - coming on at switch-on and staying on for three seconds whether or not the engine is started is perfectly normal - it shows the light works and that the ECU has completed its internal checks.

OK, that is what I was looking for. So it monitors more than just the Fuel Injection. I was comfortable with it coming on at switch-on, no problem there, just wondered if there was more too it than fuel injection warning. Thanks for the info.

FWIW, the manual is not that great....
