was hoping to collect some info? did you bolt on your kit or set it up for a certain style of riding?
a quick description of what you wanted, just a bolt on,touring or race and which kit, exhaust, carb and jets you used would be good? |

Its not what I want... Its what YOU are making the motor for... Mine is for high speed endurance riding... But possibly for light-to-light racing. a quick description of what you want just a bolt on? touring? race? which kit have you investigated & why have you chosen that particular kit? " ... exhaust ... " " ... ,carb ... " jets will come. What is your budget? What is your mechanical apptitude (or are you going to pay someone to do it?) Its easy to blow $1200 on a gearbox/clutch/primary drive setup, so ensure it is what you wanted before you start. There is no point randomly asking others what their setup is, as it will likely be irrelevent to what you are trying to create.... Give us a starting point pleas, else we cannot help. Btw; it was a 2-port VBC Super motor... To start with... & it became this... modify VBC1. 2-port -got fuel, need tim(ing)? Only 67mph From your enquiry, We dont even know what motor you are starting with! |

What the hey, I'll give it a shot...
I put on a 166 kit & left the port timings as they were, but matched the intake ports to the case. I built the motor w/ pretty much stock parts other than a SIP Road pipe and think I ended up w/ a 102 or 105 jet. Your jetting will probably need to be different depending on a lot of things. That does answer your questions. Does that help? And - port timing info https://modernvespa.com/forum/post1909039#1909039 how to build a motor https://modernvespa.com/forum/post1842800#1842800 how to build a motor in pictures if that's more clear to you http://gallery.vespresso.nl/Vespresso/Referentie/P200-85-Motorblok-Opbouw Problem solved. ⚠️ Last edited by V oodoo on UTC; edited 1 time

We have a Polini 177 bolted on to our 3-port case, SIP Road pipe, 20/20 carb, 110 main. Stock everything else. Scoot has lots of torque, is plenty fast and will cruise happily at WOT all day.

The average person that bolts on a kit and never measures port timings. So you're question is very specific. Port timing alteration is usually done to work with a specific exhaust to hit a target power band. Then adjusting port timings usually involves packers to raise the barrel and removal of material from the ports/cylinder/cases. All which is rather involved.

thankyou SoCalGuy
I thought my question was simple, lol. I'm not after advice on a certain kit or I would of mentioned one but would like to know more about port timings and what set-up your running with those port timings? exhaust, carb etc so saying 'have a 177cc with a 116 main' is pointless,,I can see why you replied like that, lol but I asked for port timings? most people look past the ports when fitting a kit either because they dont understand them or are happy just bolting a kit on and hoping for the best I know the basics, just want to see what others have done |

Port timings can be altered in an almost infinite number of ways depending on the application and different components involved. You should start by deciding what you want your engine to achieve.

thats cool SoCalGuy but I'm not asking for advice on how to do it just yet,I've done lots of research and know what kind of engine I want to build
would like to see other peoples port timings and set-ups and a small description of what they built the engine for, touring or race? again just for anyone else wanting to give me advice on how to tune my engine,,have you got your port timings? |

I'm guessing very few ppl here are altering their port timing as a LOT more than just that is involved. A quick search turned up only three threads that might enlighten you and in addition to the port info link I posted above, One Who Knows(with the initials RH) suggests Norrie Kerr's tuning book for best technical source. Check the links & find the book for more on what you are asking.

Does that help? if you fitted a malossi 166cc kit and left the port timings as they were, what were they? and what carb did you use to end up with a 102/105 main on a 166cc? |

Oh.
Well OK, & maybe I should have my dictionary close at hand when I do to avoid further confusion on my part. This seems to be going nowhere & because I do NOT know my port timings, I'm done here. |

what are YOUR current settings?
Calculations, calipers, micrometers, rulers, angle measurerers will supply the answers & AGAIN a request... what do you currently have? what motor do you have? What are you trying to achieve? what level of tune are you going for? are you going to pack/shave the barrel? what SHAPE ports are you trying to achieve? what 177 kit are you planning to use (DR, Polini etc...)? BTW: I could be helpful, but YOU also need to put in some form of effort to get useful answers, else (as it appears) you are simply wasting our time & that is simply wasting our time! Ask RetroGuy what he went thru when he started here will silly questions & repeating posts... but we bashed it out of him & thirty something pages later he had rebuilt a scoot with our help. |
