Hi all,

My 60 plate GTV 250 has just failed its MOT as the steering bearings were worn and 'notchy', their words not mine. I think i've found a replacement set on ebay for £18.00, but unsure the difficulty level in doing it myself. Are there specific tools/skill level required?

Many thanks
Mark

It's a PIA but we didn't need any special tools. Don't know if the GTV is different. I replaced the top 2. The top one was totally rusted and the ball bearing went everywhere. We didn't have the new ones yet so we threw some lithium grease around them and found all the ball bearings. Good luck.

Piaggio does make a special tool to remove and retighten the castellated lock nut at the top, rather than using a light hammer and drift as some do. The use of the tool allows you to use a torque wrench to tighten the bearing set to spec as well. The tool is also available from SIP, as is the bearing set.

Cool. Will order that and the bearings set from SIP. Thanks.
