I keep hearing about these delicious cupcakes.
Are they really all-weather? How's the icing? |

Phone.
Credit Card. AAA membership card. Not used in ~5+ years. But I might bring along some other things too. Hanger hook for a helmet. Grocery bags. Insurance card. If I go on a long ride, the list is longer. But even then, screwdrivers, spare belt (no, not all the tools, I figure a shop would have them). Spare gloves, something to clean glasses and face shield with, clothes. |

Three???
Three! Holy crap, are you trying to cause a nervous breakdown... Trying to prioritize down to three... Jeez, I have that many parts for my GPS, then there's the 2 multi-tools, and 3 tool kits, tire pump, patchkit, hat, 5 gloves (where'd that other orange one go?), rain gear heavy, rain gear light, windshield cleaner, shopping bags, reflector vest for when not wearing reflector jacket... Gotta have all that stuff. Wonder why my bikes so heavy? Now what's in that top case? Oh well, can never find the key for it anyway.

One of these days I'll write out the experiences that led me to become what's called a "prepper". If you've ever truly been hungry or thirsty, you know its an experience you would prefer not to repeat. It's for this reason that every vehicle I own is loaded at all times as its own version of a Bug Out Vehicle. I may grab a few extra items on the way out the door, but I've prepared every car I own--and now the LGM--for any unplanned scenario I could think of.
I've also been first on scene to a couple accidents. Having experienced the pain and panic of an accident first hand, I--and they--were grateful I wasn't limited to a cell phone and smoke signals. I don't know if kits are cheating but my top three vehicle essential NLHWI items are what I call a BOV kit: Tool Kit (OneTigris belly bag with wrenching tools, tire patch kit and a small tire infiltrator, with some spare bits in the side pocket--sparkplug, extra fuses, etc) First Aid Kit is an SOL 2.0 with a tourniquet added and a few large gauze bandages literally crammed in. EDIT: and I've also begun adding plastic wrap folded in wax paper for sucking chest wounds. I updated my Vespa kit recently with that too. And a GHB (Get Home Bag) is a "5 C's" kit that always includes: Cutting (dedicated fixed blade knife), Combustion (lighter, matches and a fero rod with some form of tender), Cordage (about 20' of paracord and about 30 ' of nylon twine), Containers (water bag, construction trash bags, and various items like water bottles mentioned later) and cover (SOL sleeping bivy, and the construction bags for bedding or a tarp. Extra items include emergency ration bars for 1 for 3 days and a map and compass. There are a few comfort items too. I also carry a pair of distilled bottles of water for either coolant of drinking. In a car, this would be 2 one gallon jugs of the same. More if the radiator needs more to be filled. Thats what fills my seat. I have a top case for daily stuff like grocery bags, extra gear, etc, as well as ye ole trusty bag hook and newly installed front bars. I stow my bungee cords under the top case. A lot of people hawk on me for carrying that much gear all the time. But they've never hawked on me when I came to their aid. There's a big difference between people who are prepared for an emergency and people who hoard guns, food and medical supplies (typically well past their expiration date) in preparation for the End of Times. Those idi--eh--folks seem like they're either just trying to get on TV or waiting to tell the world "I told you so". So I never limit my vehicle to carrying just three items. Heck, I don't limit walking out the door to just three items unless I'm checking the mail. ⚠️ Last edited by Tiggerz on UTC; edited 1 time

Those idi--eh--folks seem like they're either just trying to get on TV or waiting to tell the world 'I told you so'". Tig, you're just too damn sane for words. What do I have? Hmm... - MKS digital tire pressure gauge* (glove box) - Chico bag for shopping (pet carrier) (*Bought this originally to keep near-neurotic tabs on my go-fast bicycles' tires) Since I'm just getting started here, scooter-wise, I haven't exactly thought out a full kit for the next roadside emergency/zombie apocalypse/Other Random Unpleasantness that could occur, but I do think about what I've normally packed on my bicycles for rides over five miles or so, which goes as follows: - Minimalist First Aid kit (Bandages/gauze, alcohol wipes, aspirin/Advil, eyedrop vials - Tire patch kit, including tire boot - C02 inflator (to augment frame pump; yes, it's come in handy at least twice) - Portable USB charger for phone (self-explanatory) I do like Tig's idea of preparedness going a bit beyond mere self-preservation, which curiously enough doesn't take much more than what one would have on hand for one's own life and limb. I've helped other cyclists who caught flats at bad moments/locations, and been assisted in kind. I'm still sorting out how that plays out riding Melody, but while I'll sidestep the Survivalist Chic thing, I will be thinking hard about sensible stuff that can make a difference (like...taking a Red Cross CPR course. Yes, that's IT!). |

Hmmm... I have to admit I'm more like Tiggerz.
I also always have a glass breaking centre punch / seat belt cutter. A colleague tried and failed to save four elderly passengers in a car struck by an 18 wheeler when the car they were in caught fire. The doors were locked and he couldn't break the windows. He suffered serious burns trying. My ridiculous level of preparedness likely stems from Boy Scout training. I have two 25' lengths of paracord and a medical kit... It's sad. Oh... Yes, the three key things: rain gear, extra gloves, Griplock. |

My p200e only has room for fuel and oil under the seat.
In the glove box I carry an extra quart of 2T oil, an extra plug, a plug wrench and a 13mm wrench to change out the spare if needed. -craig |
