We have only watched streaming TV for almost 10 years now. No broadcast TV w/ comercials at all (ABC, NBC, CBS, etc). So every now and then we find a complete series from regular TV that we enjoy. We just finished watching "The Americans". It's a cold war era espionage series that originally aired ~2013 or so. We really enjoyed it.

Just watched "Restless", a British spy-thriller that takes place during WW2 and 35 years later when the chickens come home to roost. Michele Dockery, Charlotte Rampling, Rufus Sewell, and Michael Gambon. Excellent!

Rewatched the first three John Wick movies over the weekend. Would have watched all four, but the fourth is only available to own/rent, and we didn't want to spend the money.
Last night I was watching Fascinating Horror on YouTube. From the description of the channel: Quote: I tell the true stories behind some of history's greatest disasters... but without sensationalism or disturbing imagery. Fascinating Horror is all about in-depth research, respectful storytelling, and learning what we can from the mistakes of the past. You might be surprised to discover just how much of today's world is shaped by long-forgotten disasters from decades gone by. |

Just finished Oppenheimer. I had some trepidation about watching, reading some mixed reviews, plus the length of the film....
![]() But overall, a pretty good watch. It seemed pretty objective about him personally (one comment was questioning if it made him look too heroic or something). As in other films covering that time, I'm reminded it's the Commies. Always the Commies that seemed to define the era. I've had a few conversations with my kid about the morality of dropping the Bomb. They've been clearly against it, and, as of today, I would agree is was a horrible event on all levels, but if you've studied the war you can bring in firebombings, both German and Japan (Tokyo's resulted in 100K dead IIRC). I had a patient maybe 30 years ago that was a Marine waiting to invade the mainland that still remembered the roar of cheers with the news. I suspect he didn't have a day of sobriety since returning from the war. Anyway, I think the film handled that angle pretty well.

I highly reccomend "Fauda" (chaos in arabic) as it is pretty timely considering what is happening in the world today. Lior Raz plays a leader in a fictional Israli undercover antiterrorist unit similar to Sayeret Duvdevan in which he actually served in real life. It has been acclaimed by both Arabic and Hebrew reviewers for its even handedness in portraying both points of view. Raz was also Arnold Schwarzenegger's body guard for a period.
We watched it in a mode that the Hebrew parts were dubbed in english and the Arabic parts were captioned in english. I have read though that some people who don't speak either language watched it in the native Hebrew and Arabic and learned many words of each. Anyway the acting is very good and the characters are nicely developed. Can't wait for season 5 to come out! ![]() |

The Spy (Netflix, limited series)
Sasha Baron Cohen stars in a most "un-Borat" role, playing Eli Cohen, an Israeli spy in the 1960s (inspired by true events). This one is well worth the time to watch in my opinion. Sasha Baron Cohen knocks it out of the park.

Watching The Wizard of Oz. I thought I remembered a scene where the Witch was complaining that everyone was conducting a witch hunt because they were out to get her. But in re-watching, I realized that it was her own flying monkeys that turned her in.
That and Shogun, season 1. I think Clavell would have liked it. And the final to Season 4 of Race Across the World, the BBC version of the Amazing Race where instead of half a million dollars, the winner gets 20 thousand pounds, plus whatever they didn't spend along the way. It's an interesting premise and this time was set in Asia. In hindsight, I think they all should have loaded up with cash in Japan, where they would get paid local wags for the "work" that they can do if they run out of cash, instead of working all day on a boat in Laos for $14. |

I watched Season 2 of The Traitors UK last week, and finished Season 2 of The Traitors Australia last night.
I really enjoyed the UK version. I was happy with the player who won. The Australian version pissed me off throughout every episode. There was one player who, while playing a very good game, was just an ass about it all. That being said, I was extremely happy with how it ended. I see there's also a New Zealand version available, so I'll check that out next. I realized a couple weeks into the season that both Survivor and Amazing Race were on, but was able to catch up with both without any spoilers. Both were also very enjoyable, and for the first time in a while I was happy with the players who won. In fact, on both of them, I'd have been happy with any of the final 3 winning. Well, except possibly Survivor. If the guy who came in 3rd had won I wouldn't have been quite as happy, but I knew he didn't have much of a chance. |

This is one of the best scooter -centric movies I've seen in a long time. It is wonderful. The script is solid, the acting is phenomenal, and there are so many laugh out loud moments, it's hard to pick a favorite part. It's just a perfect little movie.

It's an old show for Amazon Prime to be showing but I've starting watching and really enjoying House with Hugh Lawrie.
Bit surreal as the last time I remember seeing him on a TV show was Blackadder with Rowan Atkinson. |

I put my old plasma TV in the garage. Whenever I'm working on projects, I turn it on and let something run to keep me company. I try not to "watch" anything that's actually going to demand my attention. Lately I've been watching Homeland. I've seen it before, but it's been a while. Fantastic series!!

As my wife will tell you, I'm a tough customer for a good film. This one checks off a lot of boxes for me. Based in Oaxaca, Mexico (with Mexican director and actors), it's a sensitive look at gender, intertwined with the classic themes of love and loyalty. Can't guarantee you'll like it, but I'm giving it an 8.5/10 Not light entertainment, but IMO if you're going to invest some hours watching something.....
My wife has picked some doozies where I'm covertly checking my phone and hoping there is only one season. We got through all the episodes in two sittings. |

Just saw two Australian remakes of British series. One was their take on The Office, and it was different enough that it didn't come across as a copy of the original. Very funny show.
Return to Paradise is a remake of Death in Paradise, which is in it's 14th season. Not a good one either. Caricatures replaced characters, and the whole premise setting up the series is just plain dumb. |

It's Saturday so this evening consists of Doc Martin, Father Brown and Death in Paradise. Doc Martin is the funniest show on TV, even in reruns.
Last week we watched A Complete Unknown. I've read some bad reviews but I liked it. |

I have watch Doc Martin a long time ago & it was awesome. Watching the latest season(9) of Shetland. The Beautiful Game on Netflix is a neat story and heart warming.. |

Watched a bit over half of Furiosa last night.
Not sure if we can make it through the rest of it tonight though. It's a spectacular example of a movie that, regardless of it's obviously massive production budget (and my crush on Anya Taylor-Joy), that just weighs my brain down with it's general ponderousness and totally AI production, not to mention it's story's predictability. For all of it's overblown visuals, It's definitely not a 'better' film than the original, no-budget-at-all, Mel Gibson Mad Max movie, simply technically over-embellished to the point of ridiculousness. But at least it had Anya Taylor-Joy in it, so it gets points for that. |
