The Leftovers. HBO. Based on a book by Tom Perrotta, who grew up 5 miles from my house. Very challenging show. Watching the 3rd and last season.

I don't really watch all that many movies or much TV... Until football season.
I do take time to catch Deadliest Catch, Shark Tank, an occasional surival-esque show and 60 Minutes when I can. |

Morning ritual while doing my physical therapy stretches/exercises: working my way thru Netflix DVDs of Superbike and Moto Grand Prix races! That's basically over 100 races from random seasons covering the past two decades...since these guys are passing each other at 130 miles an hour AND routinely crashing , it's a good meditation on riding both more confidently AND carefully.
During summer we take a break from our otherwise obscene evening streaming addiction (which is usually infused with large doses of Archer, which no doubt tells you all you need to know about me), but we did manage to just get thru the newest season of Bourdain's "Parts Unknown". The last episode, especially, on Rome, reminds me of how he can elevate travel and foodie junk tv to the level of brilliant journalism and social commentary, and the filming is equally utterly brilliant. On the big screen, I thought Dunkirk was a bit disappointing -- maybe because it had been talked up so much, but maybe because (unlike Archer and Bourdain) it just kept going exactly where you expected it to go, and I like being surprised. While, oddly, I dug Wonder Woman, even tho it was lame -- maybe because my expectations were so low, but probably because Gal Gadot is quite possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen (sorry, Natalie Portman!). Yeah, definitely for the latter reason. Definitely stoked about season 2 of The Queen and at some point we gotta get serious about catching up on Game of Thrones.... ⚠️ Last edited by tdrake on UTC; edited 1 time

I recently saw one of the most amazing and insightful documentaries I have ever seen, it was called "Predict My Future, The Science of Us," and it's about the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health And Development Study, which is a study of over 1000 people and their lives since 1972. It is fascinating because they follow everybody born in Dunedin NZ in 1972 for the rest of their lives, and collect data once a year. 96% of them still participate. So they can see how people are at 35, for example, and go back and see if there was anything in the data at 3 or 4 that suggested they would turn out this way. I have been a big fan of the 7 Up series by Michael Apted for years, and this series takes the whole concept a step further.
Watch it and you will gain a lot of insight into yourself and the people you know. Saw the fourth episode of the fourth season of Australian Survivor tonight. I like it, but they keep voting out the people I want to see win. I just finished the New Zealand survivor, and it was okay. I think I prefer the Australian version over the latest US versions. There is a great cop show called 19-2 out of English Canada that is a remake of a French Canadian show, also called 19-2. I'm saving the current season to binge watch. Another great Australian show I just finished is Here Come the Habibs. It's a sitcom, and it's pretty funny. Impractical Jokers is still the funniest show I think I have ever seen, and the last two episodes were probably the funniest of the season. If you haven't seen it, do so. It will make you laugh until it hurts. |

Last night I watched a Little League Baseball* game on TV. A local San Antonio team, McAllister Park, is in the playoffs trying to make their way to the Little League World Series. Last night they came from behind to beat Tulsa, Oklahoma 8-3, with 6 runs in the third inning, including a grand slam.
*Rounders, for my mates to the east. |

On Netflix
The Kindness Diaries
Leon, the main character, is riding an old motorcycle with a sidecar around the world, 25,000 miles with no money, gas, food or any places to stay relying only on the generosity and kindness of others. |

19-2 is back. It's one of my favorite cop shows.
We started watching Mr. Mercedes, because it's shot in Charleston and my GF likes to yell out whenever she recognizes a place they used in the show. It's a weird show with an actor who looks like a homeless Nick Nolte. |

Good writing is hard to come by... Good writing is hard to come by but we are pretty spoiled in this age with all of the on demand stuff. I can't watch a series now without binge watching. PVR'ing all the GoT episodes so we can watch the season in a few sittings. SoA is going to take a LONG time to get through. Frasier was fun to binge watch, I recommend it. The series holds up and has some of the best writing ever done for a sitcom. *Edited because of typos. Honestly not a fan of the new MBP keyboard. |

I saw some new shows recently that made me feel it's time to resurrect this thread.
If you really like American Sitcoms when they work, I Feel Bad, The Kids are Alright, and Camping are well worth looking into. The first two are network shows, and Camping is on HBO. The Kids Are Alright has lines in it that will make you cough whatever you are drinking out your nose, if you aren't careful. |

Since the thread is back, I'll add a few. If you know anything about France, the Netflix series "A Very Secret Service" is hilarious. It's even funnier if you understand French culture. The first season is better than the second, IMHO, but there are some prime bits in the second as well. One of my favorites is when the agents interact with some Quebecois separatists, they brilliantly skewer the Canadian French accent.

Now perusing new TV stuff between ballgames and learning the names of this years pre-NBA kids. The Voice has enough talent this year for a hundred seasons of Idol? Our DVR is currently overworked adding Tom & Jerry and other rug rat TV shows for an influx of family for Thanksgiving-30 people will invade us. ⚠️ Last edited by Kantuckid on UTC; edited 2 times

Just watched Zombieland for the Nth time since it was released.
Now, I'm known to get bored fast with Zombie movies, but I like the different twist this one has. A great bunch of cast working together, the brilliant apperance of Bill Murrey....not to mention awesome soundtrack. But the thing I really like is Woody Harrelson in his role....the role is just made for the big guy. One of the movies that would never logically climb to the top of my list, and yet there it is |

Watched the Death of Stalin last night. Reasonably historically accurate, and if you're into dark humor, well, plenty of that. Surprised both wife and daughter liked it as well. Interesting to see Eric Idle in a dramatic role....
