Hi,

Firstly this is my first post so hello all *WAVES*

I have a 2012 GTS 125 super sport. Looking at doing some work to the engine and quickly realised that a full Malossi switch will cost me around £2k and does not seem logical.

New idea I can get a GTS300 engine complete. My question is ECU I guess I need the 300's ECU? also loom are they the same between 125 and 300? has anyone done this before?

Anything else Ill need to consider?

Thanks in advance for any comments. Nerd emoticon

Engine swapping is way out of my knowledge.

But before you even start, do you have a licence or are you on a CBT?

Edit: welcome!

Not way out of possible fun jobs to do.

The QUASAR & LEADER engines are very similar

The first 250cc ones ran the same ignition timing and carb (slightly different main jet) as the LEADER 180 & 200cc scoots, the 125cc has a 2 degree advance difference in the ignition curve though.

The main issue you'll find is if there is the clearance for the engine as the 250cc & 300cc motors are longer than the LEADER motor that you have.

And to be perfectly honest the difference in power from the 200 and the 300 is rated at 1 extra horsepower, you'd be best spending £200 and just make yours into a 200 with a replacement barrel and piston

Rossm, I can go plain and just get the Malossi kit think it is the 218 kit. But then they have a ll the extra bits like the v4 head and the power cam also the force master to change the fuel injection?

Is just putting the kit on going to make a noticeable difference or should i go all out for the entire Malossi swap out or am I limited to something here? (I will put a secondary uprated gear in and variator and so on)

I'm not certain what the law is regarding riding riding a 300cc scooter but I'm pretty sure you'll find you'll find you'll be riding illegally. Obviously if you have an accident then you'll probably find you're insurance won't pay up. You'll also find the police will get involved.

If you think you're riding skills are actually up to riding a more powerful bike then why not just take your test and ride legally? You could then just sell your 125 and buy a 2nd hand GTS 250 or GT200.

depends on the state. In NC if you're riding an unlicensed motorcycle they can ticket you, take the bike and your license. Actually saw cops tow a bike in downtown area a few months ago. Found out later they were cracking down on the unregistered bit--had no plates.

They'll know its modded if they tag you and you're runnin above moped speeds.

As for the license: the written test is easy since all the answers are online; and in my state you can take the it as many times as you want. You only pay if you pass. My understanding is taking the test on something as nimble as a vespa is almost like cheating. the test revolved around a few turns and stops. One shifting test that we skipped since these vespas don't have gears

Milton Keynes is in the UK not far from London. We have a huge issue, particularly around London, with GTS 300's being stolen and then either used in crimes or being fitted into tatty GTS 125's and being sold as "upgraded" models. This was a post from just today. At best, our OP will be driving illegally and without insurance on the road.

Sorry matey, legally 125cc is your limit unless you do a bike test.

So actually tuning your 125cc may well be an easier and cheaper option than doing your bike test (theory, module 1 off-road, module 2 road ride) and going up to 300cc.

You want to get the kit with the head and cam and forcemaster. The bike will flat out fly, and will outrun a stock 300. The head is what most of the increase in power from a Malossi kit comes from.

Please don't try and persuade the OP to mod his ride to over 125. He's in the UK, and to do so with his current provisional licence (equivalent to a US 'permit') would be illegal, and might have horrendous financial consequences down the road should things go udders-vertical. Not just for him, but for any otherwise innocent party unfortunate enough to be involved in any' incident'.

3rd party would still get a payout but insurers would still come after him/her to get the money back

also then when ever you try to insure another vehicle (once you get you licence back after a ban)the one question asks have you ever had a policy cancelled or refused

you could lie to this but the insurance database will flag it up at some point

so good luck ever getting insured on something ever again for a reasonable amount

also you have paid £300 for cbts you could of done a test for half that and never have to do another one

Sounds like a plan 8) Y'know you might want to think about doing your bike test sometime too though; it's not that bad and it'll let you get any size scooter that you want, as well as allowing you to use motorways and carry a pilion, if you ever need to

It does not bother me to much I just use this for work and a run around town for trips we use the car and I doubt I will be allowed to make a bracket for a baby seat to put a 1 year old on this.....I bet in Thailand they probably have this already(Seen pics of whole family's on a scoot) Laughing emoticon

I mainly just want my Vespa to rip the little snotters up with the Gilera runners around here so many of them
